Big boost build, LS tranny.....what kind of LSD
Ive been doing my research and Ive decided that since the LS tranny has the longest gear set up from the B series family that id use it. I am going to do a rebuild on it before I bolt it up to the motor and have decided to also order some carbon coated syncros, (When I do things i like to do them right ) Now my question is what kind of LSD is recommended for high horsepower turbo cars?

A Quaife will work fine OR a OBX If you feel lucky. I went with the OBX
Just a question for you.
Faster acceleration means the car will be faster right?

Re: Big boost build, LS tranny.....what kind of LSD (OMG B16)
Shorter gears in high HP applications with limited tires sizes are useless, your not accelerating effeciently if your tires are spinning through your first 3 gears.. At least thats my theory, were testing this on our shop car soon...
If you've got the power you need the proper gearing to lay it down the track..

Yeah, but most people don't need the gearing of an LS tranny that will take them to about 120 MPH in third gear at the track.

Re: Big boost build, LS tranny.....what kind of LSD (boosted92)
Well what I was thinking was that when you have a high horsepower motor that accelerates extremely fast you would benefit by covering more distance in each gear as opposed to less. Compare a B16 tranny to an LS, if I were makng say 500+ WHP with a B16 I would rip through 1st, 2nd, 3rd and possibly some of 4th before I catch traction, the ratios were set up like that due to its lack of torque to give it that extra acceleration. Now with an LS I would have a greater chance of catching traction in a lower gear due to having a longer transmission which wasn't exactly geared for an all motor vehicle and once full boost is achieved I can take advantage of a fully spooled turbo for a greater distance in each gear.

3rd gear on LS tranny isn't 120mph....
LS tranny + LSD for a boosted application sounds awesome to me.
Type-r tranny has short gears
b16 tranny has short gears
GSR tranny is actually pretty good with boost too

Throw some 24.5" slicks on your car with an 8500-9000 RPM redline and see what you're pushing in third.
Hint: Slicks grow at higher speeds.

With 24.5" Slicks(25" for growth) + 9200RPM = 126mph in third with an LS Transmission.
Even with the 23.8" 225/50/15 BFG's at that rpm is 120mph in third.
I hope you have a good powerband and a fast spooling turbo.
