which is better hooking the wastegate vac. souce too?
i searched no real answer to my question which is better using the compressor housing or the intake manifold, for my wastegate vac. source let me know guys also what the cons and pros of each

compressor housing is best, next would be anywhere else pre throttle body, the worst is the intake manifold

the best would be hooking it up to the compressor housing altough if you are running an intercooler there will be a 1-2 psi pressure drop on your boost. Second would be running the the line pre throttle or via vacuum manifold with this you can keep your boost pressure but your wategate will not be as responsve as to hooking it up to the compressor housing. its all up to how you want it man

i actually think the closer to the throttle body the better, even the intake manifold would be good.
if you hook to the compressor you may read 10psi, but after you lose some pressure from the charge system you may end up with only 9psi by the time your engine sees the pressure.
so you will be getting actually less psi to the engine than the wastegate is opening at.
if you feed from close to the engine you will get a more true reading.
although there is really no bad place to hook the vacuum source, as long as you are getting a strong signal.
the wastegate works off of positive pressure, so no matter what line you hook it to, all your vacuum lines will show nearly the same pressure reading.
vacuum is a bit different because you can get a weak reading, but boost will usually fill the empty spaces more easily.

In for a reasonable response. I'd much rather read something than see some pictures of busted up turbos that may or may not be a result of where the pressure source was tapped for a wastegate.

I have mine in the charge pipe just before the throttle body.
That way the WG measures/maintains that amount of boost going it to the motor.
Thats the best way as I see it.

I have mine between the compressor and the intercooler tapped into the piping and it's worked good for me.

I have mine tapped into the charge piping pre throttle body and post intercooler... seems to have worked well for me.
As other have indicated above, pre intercooler will not compensate for any pressure drop across the core and post will.

It's also the quickest responding source since you're not dealing with variances such as TB plate, pressure drop across the IC core, bends in the IC piping, etc.
If you're tapping the IM, that takes into account the pressure drop through the IC/piping, which can fluctuate a few pounds. By the time your signal source tells the wastegate to start opening, you're off a few psi already. Hence, the overspun turbos.
I still tune off of the boost pressure in the intake manifold though, since that's the actual pressure going in.

Theoretically if you get a 'huge' boost leak (charge pipe blow out and you continue to run hard) and you have your wastegate tapped at the intake manifold then the wastegate will never open and your turbo is going to over spin which would damage it. However, if you are tapped at the compressor the wastegate will open because it will see the true value the turbo is making, unless the line gets damaged.

so your saying at the intake manifold it will cause the wastegate to open later, so it will run a couple more psi .how would that hurt the turbo say i am running a 9psi spring and it runs 11psi from where the source is, will that hurt the turbo ?
