Best Turbo Kit Money can buy?
Hey guys, ive recently come into a sum of money. Quite naturally i instantly decided to blow it on my car to make it not suck.
I want to keep my engine and not do any internals, just wondering whats the best turbo kit based on hp/timeslips that is readily available (aka not custom)?
Apexi Greddy RevHard DRAG? any info would be great, basically planning on getting a kit, getting a hondata 2b leaving it untuned because of the lack of a tuning place around here and getting some larger injectors, and of course a Blitz DTT and a Apexi Boost Controller. Thanks for your input.

What's the point of an untuned Hondata You'd be better off with a FMU.
About your question though...RevHard

Re: Best Turbo Kit Money can buy? (speeds)
Well, an FMU wont support peak/hold injectors correct?
The reason it wont be tuned is that i work 12 hours a day and 8 hours saturday, and there is no where around here (Sand Springs OK) that will tune it.
Btw, what are the chances of breaking into the 200whp era?

The Greddy turbo kit will physically fit the 99 EX, but it was designed for the 92-95 Civic Vtec D16Z6 OBD1 computers so that it would pass smog in CA. Most turbo kits need to be tuned, that makes the difference between a decent running car and a bad *** running car. Parts are not necessarily going to make the kit, but bad tuning or lack of tuning with good parts is just as bad.
DRAG Gen 3, but it will require tuning, this will make the most horsepower, but at the same time make the piston rings take a lot of stress. More horsepower means premature engine wear. Your choice low horsepower and the motor will last forever or high horsepower and more motor abuse.
You make the choice. I suggest buying a turbo kit with a cast manifold for street use.

Im an idiot
Sorry for the newbie questions, but im still unclear about the purpose of the hondata then, is it just because the factory ecu can only read up to 11psi? If you dont buy a hondata you cant go over 11psi on the stock ecu? I thought the stock ecu had errors when there was positive manifold pressure anyway? Last thing, does ANYONE know where i can get my car tuned? Are we just talking anywhere with a dyno? cause there is one about 150 miles away which might be possible at some point even tho i work 70 hours/week. thanks

without doing any internal work on your engine, dont plan on boosting high. since you came into a sum of money, i encourage you to swap or build up the internals.
you can easily break 200whp on stock internals with a greddy turbo kit with fmic and proper tuning. but who knows how long your engine will last. if you build it up correctly and tune it very, very well, you may see 300hp at the fly

Re: Im an idiot (GSxRated)
I thought the hondata comes pre-calibrated for 440cc injectors to run pretty decent out of the box. At least thats what my understanding of the website was.

Heh, you ask him what he paid to get those 11's? No offense, but turbo'ing a SOHC Civic sounds like a waste of money. I used to own a Civic EX before I got my GSR, the d-series engine is not meant to be a race engine in any way. Sure there's guys out there who insist upon making their stock engines fast and do it...for a price, but why waste all that money on making that one Cam and crappy head go fast when for the price of a turbo you can have a b18c powerplant w/ bolt-ons and still be able to beat a turbo'd SOHC d-series on 6-8 pounds of boost. Think about it.

On a SOHC EX engine?! You realize thats 173 hp over stock right? Putting it at or around 235whp. That block better be missile-proof and I hope ya got lots of Green.
additional goods and gadgets - $6500
the look on peoples faces when they see a SOHC 1.6L engine flying by - priceless
i agree that a b18c5 would be, in a way, cheaper than the buildup process of a d16. but with any engine, i would want to build it up. i already have an engine, so i dont need to pay anything more to just get started.
sure i could just throw a turbo on the stock d16 for $1400 and be done with it and run 14s on 12psi, but i'd like to run a lot better times and knowing that my engine can handle it.

bullet proofing the d16 - $2200

B18c1- $3100
DRAG III and goodies- $4000
Save yourself $1500 and running 12's easy on 9 pounds. If its more fulfilling to spend your money on a far inferior engine go nuts, just saying its a lot more logical to go a far different route.

Re: Im an idiot (GSxRated)
im sure everyone would love to go that route (i would :D) but you are talking 7 thousand dollars for ur b18 and turbo setup...that is a lot more expensive than a simple turbo kit....either way...good luck finding a lkit!
GSxRated...badass setup you got goin there!!
good luck to all!
