Best Turbo for 400whp on a B16?
Don't hate - tried looking this topic up already but didn't find many recent posts, so....my setup is a B16A, stock sleeves, Wiseco 8.8cr 81.5mm pistons, Eagle rods, stock head, Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, Hondata s200 tuned, equal length ramhorn mani, and RC 780 or 880cc injectors in my EK Hatch. My goal is 400whp but with quick spool up (full boost 4,000-4,500k) for fun streetable power, probably won't see the track too often. I've been hearing a lot about the Garrett GT series and actually spoke w/some Garrett reps at Nopi recently and was told the GT30R would be a good choice. But my tuners say the Garrett GT's are over-priced and the Precision or Innovative trims are comparable, cheaper, and would spool about the same. What do you guys think, and what turbo would you suggest?

I would always recommend the GT series. I know a lot of people making good #s out of the gt35R but the gt2871R I know of making over 400whp on an b16 with less done that you and it spools nice and fast,.

actually, the gt2871r and the gt30r have almost exact same external dimensions if you get it from ATP, you can get the gt2871r with the T3 turbine housing .82/.86 AR and the compressor housing pretty much the same as the gt30r, the only different is you can get a v-band turbine housing for the gt30r versus the 5 bolts turbine housing on the gt2871r.
Heres his dyno
gt2871r with .82ar@only 16psi on pump gas
You can easily get well over 400. He has made over 430 with c16.
if you want something a little bigger go with the gt3076R but u dont need any more than that.

That is some extraordinary tuning I believe. 16psi, 400whp? That's tough to do, and with a relatively mild build I'd say that's the 2nd most impressive B16 turbo dyno I've seen. Look at the torque from 6k-8k. Doesn't drop off that much. That torque band plus some Type-R gears would make a really freakin fast car.

Using a GT35E I made 396whp/280 torque @ 16 psi on 93 Octane with a built b16. Was a great turbo and had a wonderful response

I told my local tuner that I was looking towards a GT30R but he said too small and that most of the 400hp numbers seen were made on a Dynojet which he isn't a big fan of because they don't weigh the car down and give bigger and less accurate numbers. He recommends the GT35R, is this so and would this be a better turbo for my goals?

If you want to go cheap get a 50 trim or a 57 trim standard t3/t4....These will give you around 400-450hp or so relatively easily
If you want something a little better get the gt3076r....your tuner is full of ****...I've seen these turbo's knock down over 500 on all types of dynos.

Well, i looked in to them and the GT's are kinda pricey for me, what would be some other compareable turbos....(Full-Race)T3/T61, or 60-1?

If you're "only" looking for 400 hp, go with the 60 trim t3/t04e, or sc61. You can find these anywhere, and you can always upgrade later, if you're looking to make 500 or more hp.

I also have tuned a B16 w/a t3/67 on 20 psi and 93 octane to 424whp. the car runs 11.0 @ 129 and its daily driven
