Default best motor for turbo?

hey guys, since the search option is down.. i was wondering what would be the best motor for turbo? i'm not planning on doing anything crazy. i just want something simple and reliable that will put out a decent amount of power. i do know that turbocharged motors are high maintenaince. the two motors i've been looking at is the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC motor and the B18B NON-VTEC LS Motor. which way would be better for me? i know the d15b would be cheaper and cost a lot less, but the b18b has a lot more potential, right?

your correct,

but if you not planning on doing anything crazy, why not save your money and get the d15.

if you change you mind about your goals later, you can always just sleeve it.
also if this is your first turbo car and you like doing things yourself. i would want to learn what i was doing on the cheaper moter.

anyway, good luck

platinum.

I'd say go with the B18B, I'm personally not a big fan of SOHC motors and the B18B has a lot more potential. But it all depends on your budget and your goals.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with a D-series and boost... Go B-series

Trust me when I say this. Your going to want more. 95% of people who go turbo always either upgrade or up the boost. Now do things right the first time and get out of the car exactly what you want. I say go with the B18B just because of the potential...spend the extra cash to get the better motor. What is your idea of nothing crazy? (200whp, 250whp?) I mean you have to be more specific. Also, what kind of money do you have to spend on the turbo setup after you get your engine. You gotta think of the entire picture. Make sure you spend the majority of your time with engine management and finding a good tuner. Because thats going to be the key to your reliability.

well, here's the thing. i want the best setup for my money. i wouldn't mind spending a little more to get to where i want to be. by "not doing anything crazy", i meant like 600+ HP to the wheels and stuff. i guess the b18b is the way to go. i can slap on a turbo with stock internals and slowly build it over time, right?

D series is going to be cheaper and it has plenty of potential. And its not the end of the world if you blow your motor.

B series is going to be more expensive and have alot more potential. In the future you could build it, put a vtec head on it the list goes on. And a big plus to the B's is you can put a b16 or a gsr tranny on to improve accel. I plan to built my d16 for 300whp.

A D-series makes a better torque curve than a B especially when built. Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

Well if your options are that open, I would definitely go with the GsR motor.

What are you going to be doing with 600 hp on the street? Your first setup isn't going to make that much power. And with 600 hp you'll need axles, slicks, all sorts of other stuff. I thought we were talking about what motor was going to be good for your first boost setup.

well if you read on h-t long enough you start to think " i can build an engine like that" i was kinda the same way but i started out wantin like 350-400....not too bad but its my first which i assume is his first also..could be wrong...but now im goin d-series..i think they have plenty of potential for the majority of people..just think a 350 whp civic will keep up with alot of cars..and 350hp is attainable with a d-series...especially since you will be saving money on not buying the B engine..plus your engine will be pretty damn sturdy after using that extra money to build up the D....i say if you are an everyday smoe and you wanna go pretty darn fast..go built D but if you just want insanely crazy numbers go B but IMO you wont use that power..hope that helps..i know what you are going through its tough to choose which direction to go

The LS is a little more power out of the box then a Dseries.. and you can get 3 LS's for the price of a GSR.. LS is the perfect middle of the road solution.. not to mention has alot more power potental if you decide to build..

plus... Dseries is like only having one nut
