Best forged pistons for a cold weather turbo K24A1?
Hey!
Been piecing together a turbo setup for my 2002 CRV project car, but the car is proving to be so much fun to drive N/A I would still like to drive it a bunch in the winter. That being said, I'm worried about piston slap with traditional low silicon forging like CP or JE when the vehicle will be parked outside and it's -20 out. Thoughts? Supertech has high silicon forgings available, but only for higher compression ratios and I would like to stay around 9:1 for a variety of reasons.
That being said, if I ran a set of 87.5mm CP pistons, what kind of PTW clearance would be acceptable for making 450-500WHP occasionally on race gas, but not slapping the motor to death when it's -20 outside?
Thanks!

DO IT ON ALL FOURS

Just go with a 4032 forging. Wiseco has PLENTY of off the shelf choices for whatever your desired compression ratio is. There are other manufacturers as well, but you could also get a custom piston made if need be. Personally, for your intended use, I wouldn't go with 2618 forgings.
The few times I did drive 2618 forgings when it was approaching 0° F, they never stopped slapping with 0.0035" PTW...

I had a set of supertech 4032's in my b16 for 3 1/2 years @ 321whp. I just pulled my engine apart(due to needing rods for new build) and I was very impressed with how they looked after my very abusive driving.
