Battery Relocation pics
 
I just completed relocating my battery to get it out of the way for my turbo project. Its a lawnmower battery w/350 Cranking Amps. Let me know what you think.

I would have relocate the batt to the trunk but it looks ok....

Yes, but this only cost me around 30 dollars while relocating it to the trunk would have cost me 100-200 dollars or more. And this works just fine...plenty of room for IC piping and filter.

Yes, but this only cost me around 30 dollars while relocating it to the trunk would have cost me 100-200 dollars or more. And this works just fine...plenty of room for IC piping and filter.

Yes...but I want to drag race my car at the track...and to do that you need a sealed battery box if its not in the engine bay, which that is not...and it has to be vented to the outside. A seeled moroso box costs 100 and does not come with wiring or the shut off switch that is also needed to race at the track.

Plus running looks like a PITA. This spot and box only took me and my dad like 4 hrs to clear out and make...and it only cost 30 dollars. It works just fine.

Yes it is...but its wrapped three or so times...between the actual insulator on the wire and the two wire guards...I'm going to reroute that today

FWIW, your box will not pass tech inspection. Only approved battery box's will pass nhra tech. I believe there are only 2 on the market, the moroso blue box and i think that summit has one also.

All batteries must be securely mounted and may not be relocated into the driver or passenger compartments. Rear firewall of .024-inch (.6 mm) steel or .032-inch (.8 mm) aluminum (including package tray) required when battery is re-located in trunk. In lieu of rear firewall, battery may be located in a sealed .024-inch (.6 mm) or .032-inch (.8 mm) aluminum, or FIA accepted poly box. If sealed box is used in lieu of rear firewall, box may not be used to secure battery, and must be vented outside of body. Strapping tape prohibited. A maximum of two automobile batteries, or 150 pounds (68 kg) combined maximum weight (unless otherwise specified in Class Requirements) is permitted. Metal battery hold-down straps mandatory. Hold-down bolts must be minimum 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) if battery is relocated from stock and other than stock hold-downs are used ("J" hooks prohibited or must have open end welded shut.). "

Thats straight from the NHRA rulebook...it does not say anthything about battery boxes if it is relocated inside the engine bay. It does not even say that you need a box inside the engine bay...only that it is secured.

Optima Red top: $125.99

So, the total price comes to..... $165.99.

Then, you ALSO need a battery switch, which is another 20 dollars, bringing the total to $185.99 For some reason, it's no longer only 40 bucks.

Also, for drag racing, you don't want the battery in the trunk. You would actually want it as far forward as possible, but in this situation smaller and lower can never hurt. The further you move it backwards, you more you decrease your traction. That looks like an excellent spot to me.

Exactly you paid 40 for a box...and then 130 or so for your optima...making it 170 to the 30 I spent...Im not saying this is not a better option than mine...only that I did it for the purpose of saving money. I was not saying that it was a bad deal for the battery box...only that it was more of a hassle and require that I buy a box from jegs...which is now up to 67 for the whole mounting kit and wiring...and the optima battery would cost me another 130...so we are infact talking about a 200 dollar relocation job.
