basemap.
iv been talking to a buddy of mine and he talking me into the chiped ecu and not the FMU way.
So if I get a chipped P28 ecu I cant drive on it till I get it tuned, then he said u get a good basemap……….. Then u can drive it to the tuning place. My question is what is a basemap? |

Kinda a "best shot" at trying to get the fuel/ignition maps even remotely close. 9 times out of 10, they are horribly off and can do damage in the long run. I would not recommend driving ANY boosted Honda on a basemap at all. If you absolutely must, avoid the positive manifold pressure. |
Re: basemap. (Hybrid93Eg)
Find a good tuner, ask him about a basemap and if he can't make you one...put the stock ecu and stock injectors in and AVOID boost at any times when driving to your tuner... but i would recoment to drive as less as possible with such a setup...
towing is the best and safest way to get your car to your tuner. |
Re: basemap. (mrx)
the closest tuner to me is in the city or nj i live in upstate ny, i was gona get a phearable.net ecu with a base map but now im getting a little worried, this is my every day driver. any suggestions? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif

Re: basemap. (bigapple427)
a friend of mine bought an ecu from phearable, and the basemap he supplied was good enough to drive the car to get tuned. the drive was about 30 miles to get tuned, as long as you drive carefully you should be fine.

Re: basemap. (VI Boost)
whoever i got off the tuner list but its still a 6 hr drive for me and i dont really have an elaberate set up its pretty simple. stock d16z arp head studs small t3,12lb flywheel act clutch, simple but alot of fun to drive. and i put a gsr throttle body on it ( had one laying around) it runs great now at 6psi but i wanna turn it to 10 or 12 but i dont wanna have to trailer the car 6 hrs to get it tuned. but we'll see what happens, no one knows of any tuners in syracuse area do they?

Re: basemap. (bigapple427)
i run 8psi daily on my basemap. no prob https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

f uck you. "oh my god i'll never drive a boosted honda on a basemap" dont be a pussy, i run my turbo b16 on my basemap on 6 psi daily and it runs mint. |
Re: basemap. (I Have an STD)
as long as u dont go into boost, you'll be fine, it'll be like driving an all motor car and we know most all motor street cars arent tuned
|
Re: basemap. (eg crunkmonster)
a basemap can be worse if not matched properly to the engine/injectors. even with an correct injector multiplier i have seen cars running hell rich or dangerous lean... if the tuner who makes the basemap don't know what he is doing i would prefer the stock ecu with stock injectors...and then NO boost... thats safer then a blind guessed basemap.
i have tuned several cars and i would NEVER drive any of my cars with a basemap i have seen in my tuning live. but thats my personal experiences and maybe i'am a pussy in that case but i say, better safe then sorry... especialy on a build motor with 0-miles... |
Re: basemap. (Novtecdohc)
im in upstate ny also having my car tuned by a great guy named morgan....hes located about 20 minutes away from saratoga....hes a hondata dealer and a great tuner...check out http://www.synapsemotorsport.com

Re: basemap. (boostedgsteg)
does he only do hondata? ill try to email him.

Re: basemap. (bigapple427)
I've been running a basemap/someone else's drag map for awhile. Boost AFRs are dead on, though I'm not sure about my ignition timing. That'll have to be worked out.
My VAC is the thing that's screwed up on my map. Don't shit yourself about driving a few hours on a basemap. Just drive like a normal person and you'll be fine. Just don't get onto the freeway and do 10mph-100mph pulls the entire time and you'll be fine. |

XENOCRON https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif chris has never steered me wrong with nice, safe basemaps. i have him pull alot of timing and make sure shes nice and rich. if rather fowl out a couple sets of plugs than have to pussy foot around with a boosted car till i get it tuned |

But what could I expect from you? 1). You don't want to "pussy foot" around until you can tune 2). Your solution is to pull timing (so your car is now a pussy itself) and to add lots of fuel (so you can wash the rings) CLASSIC. |
Re: basemap. (Hybrid93Eg)
nooo nooo. yes timing gets pulled, but not much more than on a normal tune. and its not rich to the point of ring wash, jst anice little black poof from my exhaust. im not stupid, dont i dont drive my cars for very long on basemaps, im just saying, with a safe basemap and low boost, the car can be driven daily with no problems and even beat on a little. hell, my car has been running for two weeks and im going down to chris to tune this weekend, so its not like im saying "drive forever on a basemap, u'll be fine!"

Well, you implied that a basemap would be no problem for however long. THAT is what I am arguing. I'm not going to tell you a tuner can't set you up with something relatively safe to get you by for a day or so.. I am telling you its not the most intelligent thing to do however and certainly nothing I would EVER tell someone to drive with for however long they needed. |
Re: basemap. (Hybrid93Eg)
i emailed that guy and he said $400 bucks for dyno and street tune, is that about average. i really wanna do it the rite way but it getting to be expensive for 10 psi. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

THis is assuming the tuner who sends you the basemap knows wtf he is doing. A "good" tuner has tuned so many cars that hes more than likely done something simliar enough to your setup that your car will run pretty descently. I agree with not going around town racing and shit. BUt theres NOTHIGN wrong with using a good basemap to get to your tuner. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif |

just do a street tune unless you absolutely need to know your dyno numbers. Otherwise do a street tune, then go to the dyno when you have more money... |
