Bad news with my turbo teg..
Looks like my recent investment came cheap for a reason..
As every day passed by from day 1 of driving the teg, the power got less and less.. the other night I open the hood up while the engine was still running and noticed a smoke/steam like vapor coming from the valve cover breather.
Today I went to my shop and did a leakdown test. at 80psi, these are the results I got: #1 = 73, #2 = 48, #3 =76, #4=77.
So this coming Sunday, I'm gonna be without the teg for 2 weeks while my shop tears the engine apart and takes a look at whats going on. If i'm lucky.. a bad piston ring.. if i'm not lucky... a broken JE piston, or round and uneven cylinder walls. Still, I guess its just as well that I got the engine in pieces now, as now I can get the head port'n'polished and enlargened, get my blockguard installed, and have the car re-tuned for 1.5 bar hehe
is it common for JE pistons/rings to do things like this? Just curious, as this was not an investment I was expecting to incur so soon

I've never heard about trouble like this with JE rings. But if the guy put Total Seal rings in... well there's your answer right there.

I'm not sure if the rings are total seal or JE.. the pistons that i'm using are 81.5mm.. does total seal make rings this size?

Could you guys explain what you mean by Total Seal rings? Are these the rings that have no gap in them? I've heard those are the stronger than the kind with gaps.
Also, would building the engine so that the head gasket would blow before a piston ring possible? It seems that replacing a head gasket would be cheaper and a hell of alot easier than replacing a ring.
Thanks,
Noel
