Default B18C1 Turbo setup - FMU - 5psi boost problems

Ok, here's the rundown..
Stock B18C1
T3/T04E .57 trim, .63AR Stg3 turbine
chipped P72 w/stock mapping, with no knock and rev @ 8500
Vortech FMU w/ 12:1 ratio
255lph pump
TIAL 38mm EWG 8lb spring, ext. dumped
Stock GSR injectors
Spearco FMIC
Blitz BOV 2.5" d/p, 3" InlinePro exhaust
NGK BKR7E11 @ .028"
It seems to have a good bit of lag, but the bigger issue is that when I reach about 5psi, it falls on it's face.. There is a slight sound of pinging or something but I cant narrow it down to either the EWG beginning to open, or indeed ping/detonation..

I haven't checked actual ignition timing, but I did notice this morning, that the dizzy is fully rotated CCW (fully advanced? ) so I'll put a timing light on it tonight..

I have a burner and burning software, so I'm also looking for a base BIN file that I can use to get off of the stock ECU mapping...
Help there is appreciated, as well.
Regards,

predetonation is what it sounds to me. check the ignition timing. do you have anything to handle the ignition? and fmu is not recommended. do you have access to a wideband o2 sensor?

I'll check the timing tonight.
I don't have a wbo2, but I'll try to use my friend's if he'll come off of it for a little while..

I know the FMU isn't recommended, but it's a temp solution until I get the ecu chipped and 2.5B map sensor in place.

Thanks!

well, yeah...

Hence why I am bouncing the issues off of you guys
Where can i get a base map BIN file to help get me started and get off the FMU setup? I need to pick up a resistor box so I can get the 450s in there, as well..

any of the tuners/ecu chippers on here could probably send you a basemap or tell you how to make one. they are pretty simple. but even with the basemap you shouldnt be boosting they are only used to get you safely to a tuner.

im willing to guess that the 255lph fuel pump you mentioned is an intank. with an fmu you will need a inline pump to supply the fuel pressure that the fmu is creating. that may be your issue.

get a basemap and the 450's, ditch the fmu and get yourself tuned you will be much happier.

Actually, the 255 is inline, with the stock pump in the tank at the moment.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully one of the people you mentioned will see this and assist in getting me a good base map. I'll get it tuned as soon as I can get this portion (2.5B map, BIN file, etc) completed..

what editor are you gonna be using anyways? not that it really matters just curious. you could maybe send a pm to phearable (mtber) or j-k-tuning (93turbo16). they might be able to help out. there are many others but those 2 just stick out in my head right now.

if you wanna try to make the map yourself this link has some good info. http://home.mn.rr.com/keebler65/honda/tuning.html it gives directions for making a basemap in uberdata which is very similar to crome. it also has some good advice on tuning. ir just hitup http://www.pgmfi.org im sure are some write-ups on there.

Ok, so I set the timing. It was way advanced. With the diag plug jumpered, at optemp, it was about 1/2-3/4" away from the timing marker on the cover (towards the firewall.)

On the crank pulley, there were three marks together, about 1/8" apart from one another - the middle one is white.. I aligned the white one with the cover pointer, and test-drove it... same thing, no change.. still stumbles about4-5psi, although the pre-det noises seem to have gone now...

my gsr ran fine with a 10:1 fmu and a walbro 255 intank fuel pump with stock injectors, all at 9psi. lol

i'd send you my map, but i have 550 injectors.

maybe throw in new plugs and gap to .030 instead. try a normal p72?

Thanks, I appreciate it..
The plugs are new, actually. Just swapped them last night. Made no change.
The first ones were a week old and gapped at .030"

What is your map built from? Uberdata, Crome, etc?

Ok.. Fixed it.. Burned a chip to handle stock MAP and 450ccs, at 11psi..
Runs 1000x better. Drivability is great, as well..
I'll be scheduling a dyno tweak session soon..
Thanks for the help, people!

Yep, I have a couple other issues to work out first (for some reason, my speedometer quit working, all other gauges work fine, VSS plugged in.) and O2 sensor (can't seem to get an O2 sensor, even tried four of them, to read anything on any gauge.. ARG!!!
