B18c1 stock turbo help
Before anyone roasts me on the threads.i have done my research and need some specific help.
Planning on boosting a stock oem rebuilt b18c1. I purchased it for a good deal. The head and block are separated and planning to give the motor a little refresh. The block has already been rebuilt with oem pistons and rods, bearings and rings, might rebuild head valves, springs, retainers. Are cams and adjustable cam gears going to be necessary? There is a str block guard. I have read good and bad things about them. and mostly negative comments and concerns. Don’t know wether the cylinder was honed or bored over after installation of the block guard. So I am stressing concerns about the motor. Been told that the motor ran fine with the bg installed. I was planning on this being a light build. But now with doing more research I am scared that this light build may end up turning into a bigger build than expected. I hope that I don’t have to go as far as sleaving the block etc. I am hoping if everything is still okay to, drop the motor in and break it in. than after that go with one of the goautoworks kits. Looking to get 280 to 300 whp. So please help me with the direction or steps that I should go with next.been doing research for a few weeks now and have gathered a lot of information. But this block guard situation it making me a little worried.

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
What kind of injectors? Like everyone here says, Try getting some ITR cams and maybe skunk2 cam gears. You should be capable of hitting it just like that on stock internals! And go for ID1000 injectors..
And the street x kit from GO-AUTOWORKS.

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
Why would he go with ID1000's if his goals are 280-300HP? You can reach that with
550cc's all day. ITR cams are great but also not required, GSR cams will be fine and cheap if you dont have them allready. And for stock cams adjustable cam gears arent required but may allow your tuner to get a few extra HP. I dont see any information on the turbo/manifold you'll be using either? Do some more research this has been done over and over again, just find a build from someone else and pick similar parts.

It's not to much the turbo set up I'm worried about yet because i know for a fact that it can be done and it already has been done time and time again.
I'm the block guard that I'm unsure of.i have no idea what to do About it. The block has zero mile since the rebuild

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
The reason 1000 cc might be a good idea. is he said he might get boost happy. he said it his self he is scared of this turning into a all out build. atleast if he already had the 1000 cc injectors he will have room to grow.

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
I am on Oahu..the 1000cc injectors are gonnah be used later on for another build.and I understand that I should not use the block guard but I bought the motor with it already installed. So should I measure the cylinders to see if there are any deformities.how hard is it to remove?

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
I understand your concern with the block gaurd, there are more negatives than positives, and they shouldn't be used. Your bottom end is already rebuilt/assembled with it in place.
There is no telling if it was done correctly, and even if it was, it's a crap shoot if it will give you problems.
You have a few choices.
Run the block the way it is and it will either work fine, or it wont.
Dis-assemble the block, take it to a machine shop and have them remove the block gaurd, then check the cylinders for being out of round, if they're ok, then you hone and re assemble, if they're not ok, you bore to 81.5 mm, and put in a set of oversized oem replacement pistons.
OR you can just take it apart, have the block gaurd removed, and build with forged rods and pistons at 81.5 mm bore to be sure cylinders are round.
Either way, you shouldn't have to sleeve it, 300 whp does not even come close to needing sleeves.

Re: B18c1 stock turbo help
i personally would bolt it in and boost it if u have an issue then send it to the machine shop. if its already installed then put it together grab a go auto kit and boost away. stock motor will be fine up to about 350 especially with arp headstuds.
