b18c1 build up questions
im getting ready to install a turbo setup on my gsr hatch, im pulling the head off to put arp head studs on and new OE headgasket, should i put a block gaurd in it while the head is off? or if its even needed, its a stock bottom end at the moment, stock intake, but installing a skunk2, and what size injectors should i use for it, i was thinking dsm 450's with a resistor box, and what kinda hp can the b18c1 hold up too and be reliable, also how do you guys feel about the copper headgasket spray, thank you for all respones will be helpfull

Re: b18c1 build up questions
if it were me i wouldnt use a block gaurd. On my stock ls-v set up i used 1000cc injectors. Alot of people say its over kill but with a good tuner its fine. I made 300hp/220tq. With a bone stock block i wouldnt go no higher then 350hp. But other ppl may have other feelings on that, ill let them answer that.

As long as you don't get crazy with too much timing or boost, you should be fine. I used a timing controller on my old Integra, and had optimal timing all the time...that was a great 'insurance policy'

yeah i was shooting for around 300 to 320 hp, and its a 57 trim turbo, and only going to push around 8 psi, can you tell me a little more about this timing controller, i would love to be able to tune my car myself, its already chipped and tune with the launch controll on chrome, p72 ecu

Re: b18c1 build up questions
I'd use a better management system than some MSD Boost Timing Retard controller. There's no advancement of timing in the correct rpm band when needed. (Unless you're referring to something completely different), just get the correct Fuel/ignition management and keep it simple. No need for ARP studs and unless the HG is already facing issues, keep it simple. Better injectors and a fuel pump with the correct management that can tie into your "chipped" ECU will make 300whp+ on a GS-R without any issues whatsoever...
Go to a competent tuner the first time around. Don't experiment like that with your own DD. I know you want to have pride in doing it ALL yourself, but start off slow and get the correct tune if you want this thing to last you a bit.

Re: b18c1 build up questions
well my head gasket is leaking oil i think, there is oil from the head around where it says the b18c1, i was thinking it could be the headgasket, cam seal and cap, the vtec sylinoid, or the distributer but not sure, i was just gunna replace them, i got the whole toip end gasket set,
and also whats a good reliable turbo for my application, i already have the waqlbro 255 in-tank fuel pump

I'd start by looking at the solenoid and easy stuff first. If your HG was leaking, it probably wouldn't be to the outside of the motor. And Shodan should be able to point you in the right direction of the turbo.

Re: b18c1 build up questions
there is a gasket that is behind the base of the solenoid that could easily cause a leak. Just get an OEM gasket replacement from the dealership and DO NOT USE RTV OR GASKET MAKER. You'll clog the orifice and vtec will no longer work. The gasket is like 3 bucks.

Re: b18c1 build up questions
okay i will start with that, the top end gasket set doesent have that gasket in it, so basically just take it off and clean the surface and bolt it up dry without any rtv, and its just the 3 bolts and its off and thats it?
