b18c1, 81.5mm itr pistons running 6-8psi. safe??
just what the title says, its a usdm gsr punched out to 81.5mm w/ rs machine itr pistons and soon to be running a ebay turbo kit (xs power) w/ anywhere from 5-8psi. my question being, with a good tune is thatsafe for DD?

First of all, the XS Power turbo kit (from ebay) is a huge pile of crap. Steer clear of it. Many people have had problems with the manifolds cracking, the wastegate not holding boost, and the turbo spewing oil everywhere. That's what you get when you buy a complete kit for $600 (half the price of the Borg Warner S256 turbo i'm running).
Dont base your goals in terms of PSI. Thats not a relevent way to measure anything. You need to base your goals in whp. Most times b series VTEC engines are fine in the 300-340whp range on the stock block. If you have the proper fuel, you can make more.
Boosting on your engine is possible and can be safe with the correct tune, setup, timing and fuel grade. The reason that high compression limits most turbo builds is because there isn't a fuel available with a high enough octane while being cheap enough for daily driving. On pump gas (93 octane) you should be able to make 300whp provided you meet the criteria above (good tune, setup, etc). If you were to have access to E85, you could make even more power because its 105 octane and would therefore resist detonation moreso than 93oct.

This is not his only thread about Ebay Turbo Kits, he is flat out waiting for one of us to say "My EBay turbo kit is amazing!, defiantely a good buy!" and I doubt he will stop asking Ebay questions until he hears that.

you have a good motor why blow it on a crappy turbo.. safe you money and buy a good turbo kit, and then at least if u blow ur motor it wasnt because of ur turbo, it was maybe because u were trying to push it to 11lbs when it can only handle 9 at max.. might sound stupid, but smart

psi don't mean much.
but I'll go against everyone and tell you what you wanna hear.
a guy in my town is running the ebay turbo kit on his sohc coupe and ran 13.9. but he already changed the turbo twice within the year, and went with a cast iron manifold and tial WG. car is not tuned and on a base map.
