Default b18c slow, want to boost next summer....

im tired of the stock b18c (gsr) swap i did in my 93 hatch. I originally didn't want to boost the engine but i have changed my mind. Im not looking for crazy power as this is my dd, and i want to keep stock internals. I would like to keep this thing somewhat reliable for driving to school and work. Could someone steer me in the right direction as what turbo setup i could piece together?

Get a small turbo so the spool is great on the street. Look into something like a gt28, chances are a 30r or 35r will be overkill for your set up unless you want to build the engine in the future. Psi depends on which turbo you go with, 9 psi on a 28rs is a lot different than 9psi on a 35r

Two things come to mind .. First, if you drive a boosted hatch with a GSR motor, your car will be stolen. Expecially if you are driving this to school and work. Anyone that says otherwise is BS or lives in the middle of nowhere. Second, reliable daily driven boosted car is hard to do on a budget. You have to dump a lot of money onto your setup to have it reliable, using proper gauges, proper tuning, built block, proper fuel management, among other things.

I have a b18 and i run a pretty small turbo so i just have a td04 which still gives quite a bit of power and i only run 7 pounds with stock internals. the only thing i have is 450cc dsm injectors and i think it is just perfect. Safe and reliable

If you have a nice set up you have to be carefull. People have tried to steal my car twice and I live in a wealthy area. This is where hidden fuel pump switches, lowjack and a $1400 alarm come in handy. He's also right, it can be hard to do on a budget. But if you do it right it will last. I drove my boosted stock b18 for over 25000 miles. When I pulled the motor to do a full build my compression was still perfect. The car would have gone another 25k. This was with a 60-1 and a good tune.

It's all in the tune!

If i had limited resources and wanted to build a reliable turbo setup i'd probably look into the Edelbrock turbo kits (if they even still sell em). It's a pretty complete kit and uses a GT ball bearing turbo if i'm not mistaken.

x2 Mine sleeps in my garage but I also have a GPS tracking system and a alarm in mine as well. If you want to wake up to see your car I would suggest getting it secured first.

luckily i do live in the middle of nowhere. Though dumping this much money into it already makes me paraniod when i cant see it, i am going to do some security measures soon. Really the budget isn't a problem i am going to take my time with this, I definitely do not want to go cheap on anything, Thanks for the all the input.

An alarm will allow you to keep rolling for years, while a turbo kit can't keep it from being stolen. I sleep SO much better at night knowing my 2-way alarm is working. My only beef is night animals occationally set off the radar sensor when the hide under it.

Smallest I'd suggest would be a 60trim T3 with a stg1 or stg3 .48ar hotside. That's still enough for 300whp on a GSR, more than enough in a street car. I've seen 20yr old 60trim's making 250whp with b16's at 10psi. The GT28RS would be similar, just much more responsive. Anything bigger will just be laggier for the same power level and less "power under the curve". You'd want to get an Omni 3bar MAP sensor to run over 11psi to reach that power, but it's safe on pump gas w/decent tune.

That thread will be useful in determining what you will and will not want. You will want more than 10psi, but you won't want a massive turbo for "future goals". Nearly everyone who says that sells/trades their <10psi Honda 3 years later.

auto theft in most of PA is almost non existent. you have to be in one of the few cites in PA to even worry. around here we have more amish and horse and buggys then stolen hondas. now for a b18c1 its hard to not make 300 they just make power when boosted so easy. small ebay kits spit out 300 with ease so dont worry about making your goal it will with ease, just pick your parts carefully.

Thanks for the good info, What thread are you talking about?

Good advice. This sure seems to be true:
