Default B18b turbo piston question. experienced people

Ok my question in simplest form is this, how much psi can stock pistons take from my turbo.

Now for the details you need to know. I'm running a greedy 18g turbo kit on my b18b. I will be upgrading my rod's to eagle rods because I know the rod's are the first thing to go and their not as expensive as pistons. I really don't want to upgrade my pistons if I don't have too because I don't have the extra money and I don't want to save up even longer... you know how it goes.

anyways, I know people say stock LS is good up to like 300 whp. but I'm staying under that. I'm shooting for like 270-280whp for my goal. but to do this, I need to upgrade the actuator on the turbo so I can reach that because the turbo it maxed at 10psi. So to reach that goal I'm expecting to push like 16psi? I have no idea really but I know 10psi won't do it. But how much psi can I push on the stock pistons.

I know bigger turbo's can get that goal with less psi but since its a super small turbo I have to push a lot more psi to get that goal. Is that a problem with the pistons? or does the higher psi not matter since its still under 300 whp.

This will be dyne tuned on hondata s300

I hope i didn't confuse you too much. Please ask questions and give feedback.

Thanks for all your help!

what psi is that particular turbo good for do you know? if your running a small turbo sometimes its not just a matter of upping the boost to reach your goal, you run the risk of overspinning the turbo and running it out of its efficiency range where your just super heating the air charge and risk damaging the turbo itself.

Uh I'm not sure if there are actual specs for that about the turbo. Greddy left if very vague when it comes to the 18g, but I do know that other people have used it to make 350hp at around 18psi with other mods of course, but the turbo ran to 18psi. So I'm assuming 16psi would be safe. I know the turbo doesn't work the best at high rpm's so I'm not doing any head work.

Psi means nothing. Stock LS pistons are reliable to 300whp and so are the rods for that matter. You can make more but the ringlands are a bug weak link on the pistons. Leave the rods alone unless your going to replace the pistons too. It's just a waste of money for 300whp

I already have the rod's and I feel safe doing them anyways. I just just really interested in the pistons, but I'm going to be getting new better rings for them anyways along with the rods. So it works out then. I asked because a lot of people say don't go over 8psi on stock internals which would imply that the psi does matter but others say its good till 300whp so I was getting mixed answers.

I'm not disagreeing with the comments above, but does anyone else have any incite to this or does everyone just agree with what he said?

the rings arent the problem, its the ringlands on the cast pistons are weak and crack/break
