B18B Turbo Build - Advice Needed
Been building a Turbo Engine for my Honda for a while now, after a previous one failed.
Rather that keep things simple and try the same things over again, I've decided to aim for something better. Any advice & criticism that you guys could offer, would be appreciated. Let me give you some information & a more detailed breakdown now. The first aim is around 600hp (around 400kw+) The end goal is 1000hp+ Both figures are on the engine, not wheel hp The block is a sleeved B18B (Darton MID Sleeves) + SpeedFactory Outlaw Spec Arias Pistons 84mm (Needs to be changed to 84.5mm) + Eagle H Beam Connecting Rods The Turbo is a custom Garrett T4, that we will be running @ 1 - 1.6 bar Although SF claim this sub assembly could handle up to 1000hp, I find it had to believe and I have received information from local engine builders that suggest the same thing. I have been told that the rods won't hold up at both the desired HP, as well as the high RPM (9000). Just some clarity on the pistons needing to be changed. After honing/boring out the sleeves to 84mm, there were still scuff marks towards the bottom of 2 of the sleeves (Black coating). I was told there might have been a mess up somewhere in the process, but yeah ... that's basically where I am now What truth is there in all of this, and what would be a good replacement rod, if these ones do not cut it ? ... More questions to follow ... Thanks in Advance NB: I know that the Turbo (Amongst other things), won't cut it for the end goal |
Re: B18B Turbo Build - Advice Needed
The Eagles are typically rated at 250hp per cylinder. However at least with the older rods once you started making 600+ they would stretch and/or pound out rod bearings. I haven't heard of this much lately though.
Although keep in mind it takes much much more than just the right rods to try and break into 4 digit power levels. I'm talking like 10k in trans and axles alone. I would at least consider a set of Manley Turbo Tuff rods or running BME/GRP aluminum rods. |

Yeah your in for much more than rods and a turbo for those numbers lol...youll have to take the entire markets finest parts to sustain that kind of power that's just the maximum power achieved with this block not to mention your suspension and break upgrades beyond all the engine work...look at forged rods after market cams new spring and retainers adjustable cam gears new ecu you pretty much need to rebuild the entire car lmao
