B18B LS Street turbo setup question?
I had bought my swap in November, and it ends up that it needs rings so I am going to go ahead and build the bottom end slightly for the turbo instead of boosting the stock engine.
I plan on using all OEM basic parts and then go with the good billet Crower rods and either Mahle pistons or the JE's. I will utilize Hondata, 550 RC's, and upgrade the fuel pump. The swap has an ACT exteme PP with street disc and the Fidanza 8 lb. flywheel.
Having said all of that, I am in search of input from guys who have a similar setup or have expertise in this area. What I want the outcome to be is around 240-280 whp at a good tune as I will drive the car everyday for the most part. Which kits or turbo setups will help me reach these goals efficiently. I really am liking the looks of that peakboost kit that "Wired Ricky" is offering for 2900.00. And then there is the Full-Race stuff that looks great. I want a ball bearing turbo that spools quick enough to utilize the power on the street with the stock B18B redline.
Sorry for the novel, just getting close to making my decision. Please only input if you have something other than a search response, for I have been reading up on this **** for about six months.

with those power goals you could slap on a drag kit and get those numbers.
But of the two kits you spoke of I would go with full-race.

I made 310whp on a completely stock ls block. I rebuilt it to stock. the turbo kit was one I pieced together. its was pretty cheat. it was about $1400 with out engine management. I dont believe in pre-made kits becuase you can piece together a turbo kit thats cheaper and you get exactly what you want. check out my sig.
my car is a daily driver. I try my best to beat the **** out of it as much as I can. its still holding up strong. I did a compression test a few days ago and they were the same as when the motor was built.

Are those drag kits good quality? I felt like that full-race might be overkill for my application. Hell I really don't know **** about them though.

I have a how to built a turbo kit pdf. I used it over two years ago to built my first kit and recomment to anyone that wants to build there first kit. the pdf tells you all the parts of a turbo kit and what you need to do one for a b-series. its even tells you places you can get the parts are a good price

Awesome build, I just can't reason out putting factory pistons and rods back in there. Thanks for the input.

It really depends on who you talk to. I have had two drag kits and have never had a problem with them made good power and I was happy. A lot of people have boost creep issues with the drag kits and some say the manifolds crack.
You can build your own kit for a lot cheaper then just buying a kit already put together and you can get the parts you want. I guess it depends on if you have the time and patience to shop around for everything to make sure you are getting the best price and so on.

Where are good places to look for the parts? If that pdf file comes through I'm sure it would help me really understand all of the mandatory components of the turbo system.

I'd say piece a kit together, just like most will tell you to do. You can find cheap, good parts and be boosting for much less then if you were to buy a drag kit.
As for looking for the parts, what better place to look than right here on HT. Look in the FI classifieds section and over time you'll find everything you need. Also, some may say otherwise, but ebay may be a good source to find the parts u can't find on here.

If mid 200's are your goal, it's pretty easily attained using relativley affordable parts. A simple log manifold (Revhard, Inline Pro etc..), T3/T04E, JRC FMIC, Walbr intank, and the usual bells and whistles. I certianlty wouldn't reccomend against some of the more hi end products like Full-Race manifolds and the like, but considering the modest goals, you certainly don't need extravagent parts.
BTW, I'd strongly reccomend at least a Skunk2 IM for the LS, helps keep the breath alive over 5k!

Thanks alot for all the quick input guys. What about the pipes for the intercooler, who sells prefab pipes, if available? I know I could search for that but it seems that you guys are willing to help a boost rookie so I'll continue to pick at your brains'.

Go to 'Classefied- Forced Induction' and look around, pipes a pleanty in there.. Actually, I think I'm getting rid of my pipes. 2.25" gunmetal grey with HKS flange.
