b16b @ 7psi power?
hi all,
i have searched for an answer before creating a new topic but i only found 2 topics about turbocharge b16b's, im wondering if anyone can make an guess at what power this setup will produce:
standard b16b
hondata s200
precision sc34 57 trim @ 7 psi
3" dp and exhaust
31x12x3 ebay cooler and 2.5" piping
99 ron fuel
cheers
dave

Well that's what we call 93-94 octane here (R+M/2), so you would probably be safe to 350-400whp. The problem is the 10.4:1 CR, as well as the cast pistons. You could run a max of 10 psi before you excede what your fuel can usually take (~17.6:1 effective compression ratio). You could probably get 300whp out of the pistons before you have any issues, and a great tuner could probably get 350-375 (but won't last too long).
In a perfect world, you'd swap to a GSR/ITR crank, forged rods/pistons, then go for ~400-420whp with that motor.
btw before you confuse it like virtually every UK person seems to do, bhp= HP at the crank, whp= HP at the wheels.

^okay thanks fors the answers, i thought the CR was actually 10.8:1
ive always been advised on uk websites not too run anymore than 6-7psi on standard internals...~230whp...but are the standard internals safe at ~300whp....?
and yes, once it blows i will do the 1.8 conversion.

Re: (Dave_yd)
mine ran fine at 7psi, i turned up the boost to 10psi and boom! if i was you i would keep it around 7psi, i dont care what anybody says, high compression + turbo is a bad choice unless your running methanol. and yes b16b is 10.8:1 compression.

well i had a 3" exhaust and dowpipe, a ball bearing turbo, and AEM EMS, i was making about ~260 and at 10psi it was 300whp but the engine was on the brink of disaster and it did melt a piston. there is another user on here who just recently blew up his b16b with 10psi also.
i would suggest getting a 2mm headgasket and headstuds that will bring you down to around 9.4:1 which is much safer, which means you will be able to make more power safely.

i use cometic, i know they make a .080" gasket which is 2mm there about 100usd or less, you should also get a set of cam gears if you do that though as the thicker head gasket may change cam timing and the cam gears will allow you to fix that.
what are you going to use for engine management? do you know who will tune it?
