What kind of power are you looking to make.
One of my worst decisions was going with GSR cams, instead of Type-R. I was being cheap, and now I kick myself in the *** for doing it.
They really limited my power to the 500whp range on the dyno, and now I have to pick up some Type-R cams and pay for more dyno time.
Type-R > GSR > B16

With a mild 3-400 whp build, you will see a nice increase upwards of 30hp with cam gears and tuning going from a B16 to a GSR cam. Type R cams will make more though as stated above.
I went with the GSR's for the same reason you did, I had the car apart changing a head gasket and my buddy let me have his for 50 bucks. The main difference I noticed was in the midrange, the car felt much better in boost but out of vtec than it did before.
If you don't want to spend the extra cash on ITR's and you aren't trying make 500+hp, then the GSR's will make a nice improvement. If you are trying to make a lot of power though, (a lot), then the GSR's will limit you although not near as much as the B16's.

Your overall power potential is going to be limited by the turbo, not the cams. The cams will just broaden out your powerband and let you make more power at any boost level, till you max out the turbo. If you were stuck at 500 WHP, you could have just cranked the boost.
