Default B16A1 Turbo, on stock engine/pistons

I am aiming for ~300-350whp daily driven Civic VTi.

Did some research, and found that these power levels are possible on stock sleeves, but a bit risky on stock rods. From some pictures, they look ok, not as thin as the D16Z6 ones, buy I am unsure whether it's mandatory to replace them or not.

Regarding pistons, most people use forged ones, with 9:1 CR, but I haven't heard of much people using stock cast pistons at those power levels. I have been thinking of installing a thick head gasket to lower compression and using stock pistons at 8.5 or 9 CR. In fact, Vitara pistons used by D16 guys are cast units, but they are bullet proof because they work at low compression ratios.

For the engine management, I have a lot of experience with the Megasquirt, which I used in my last project, a turbocharged Suzuki Swift GTi. So I think I will stick to the same engine management.

I will appreciate any help.

Your goal of 300-350whp on your B16 is attainable, but will depend on the fuel grade you have access to. The octane level (in combination with your setup) will dictate the kind of power you can make on the stock compression. Since your goals are pretty reasonable, there is no need for a thicker headgasket unless it's already apart.

The rods are not the weak point in the stock B series; its the ringlands. As long as you have an efficient setup tuned correctly on the right octane fuel, you shouldnt have any problems.

As for Megasquirt, i've never heard of anyone using it on a Honda build. Most people run Crome, Hondata, eCtune, Neptune, AEM and so forth.

Bottom Line: leave the block alone and build a good setup around it. Your goals are very possible.

True, my ringlands cracked not too long ago, I would invest in a set of forged pistons and rods if I were to start from the beginning. Tune was conservative and afr was right on 12:1, retarded 1.5 deg per psi of boost.

For his power goals, theres really no reason to build the bottom end. I was running 315whp for 2 years on 91 octane safely. I had planned on getting a 3bar and turning it up in hopes of 375whp...again on the stock GSR block. There are many people on HT with 340+whp B series engines doing just fine as DD's.

Just make sure you go to a reliable tuner who knows what he's doing. The EMS and tune are the 2 most important parts of your setup if you want to make that kind of power on the stock block.

In Argentina, premium gas is 97 RON (~92 PON or R+M /2 in USA).

Regarding gasket, I tend to think there is a lot of difference in ease of tune between stock CR (10.2) and a lower CR (9). Tuning on stock CR won't leave much room for mistakes.

Personally, I am amazed to see that most of you are running 9:1 and medium boost levels (15-20psi) on pump gas. My last project was a Suzuki G13B with 7.8:1 and made ~200whp @ 15 psi on vitara pistons.
