Default b16a1 turbo options?? new to the forced game, converted from NA

hey, I just bought a 00' civic si, and i wanna boost it. ive heard that piecing together your own kit would be cheaper and better than buying a prefabbed kit. so I wanted to know what turbo, wastegate, manifold, and BOV would be the best for me, my goals arent that crazy, i want to get about 220-230 whp on stock internals without compromising reliability.
It will be a daily driven car, so i dont want crazy boost, just like 5-8psi or so. I've heard that b16a1's can hold like 10psi on stock internals pretty well. I plan to use hondata s200 for management with some DSM 450cc injectors and probably a walboro fuel pump if i needed??
I think i would like a turbo that would pull good all the way to 7800rpm.
THANKS in advance.

i got a first gen b16a and i pieced together my own kit. i'm running a ssautochrome manifold (hey, 2 years, no cracks, hehe), a t3/t4 .46 exhaust, .57 compressor, and a crush bent 2.5 in. dp....with gsr cams, my car pulls VERY hard. I am very happy with it. It has completely stock internals and i'm running the hack at 9psi and its been running strong for the past year. I love my setup.

if you want good quality parts you're gonna spend at least 4 grand not including an ems. A drag or revhard kits go for like 2,600 shipped.

Putting together your own kit would be better in many circumstances , but not neccessarily cheaper.

Don't look simply at PSI to guage how much power you want, it is actually relative to CFM, not psi.

Decent choice to use Hondata for your tuning managment, but there could be some hiccups using DSM 450cc injectors to work correctly w/ the Hondata.

GL.

ive heard from a few of my friends that t3/t4 would be a good option for me, but are there different trims of t3/t4? or are they all the same size? like .46 ex, and .57 compressor? also where would a t3/t4 hit full boost? or start spooling? 3500rpm? 4k rpm?
ive also done some research and it seems that most people prefer external wastegates such as tial, if external WGs would hold boost levels more stabble than internal WGs, what size would be best for 220-240whp? 35mm? 38mm? thanks guys.

yeah t3/t4 .57trim will be just around 4k rpm full boost... you want the smallest turbo that can achieve that power to get the best street responce. sounds like you would have a lot of fun with a 18G turbo or something... maybe a GT28...

go with 38mm waste gate, tial discontinued the 35mm I think, but they are about same price anyway.

ok, so maybe 18G or GT28. ill try to research those some more then. would those turbos be big enough to pull all the way to 7800rpm though? because i want to tune my b16 for power uptop, i dont mind a little turbolag down low, if it means that i can redline it at 7800 and still be in boost. thanks

ok, well ive been researching 18Gs and lots of people like them it seems, they come in low 3k rpm, and the tq and hp curves are good people say, but then alot of people were complaining about the internal WG and having problems with it, and others were saying its best to just get a turbo with an external WG to start with, so my question is what turbos which are comparable to the greddy 18G, have external wastegates??

If u want something that going to pull hard up top i would get a sc61 or a 60-1. It hits full boost about 500 rpms later but pulls soooo much harder

well, ive researched that too, but i dont want to get something that has more power than i need, i wouldnt expect to make more than like 280whp max on my stock b16a1. so what I want to do is find a turbo which can give me the power up top without overkill for my goals, and still spool up rather early, i mean, theres no sense in me getting a turbo that spools up at like 4500, if its going to give me more power than i can even use up top.

I was researching the precision SC34 and 50, what do you guys thing about these turbos? also, what about a garret t3/t4, ive heard people saying good things about a 60trim (.63 or .57ar) w/ the stage 3 wheel. would any of these be good for a stock b16a1 trying to between 220-260whp and 200+wtq? remember, I want to pull hard all the way to redline(7800), so i dont mind a little lag. I know all of these could give me the power im looking for, but which would spool up the fastest? Basically, which turbo would give me my goals with the least lag and without overkill up top?? thanks
