B16 Turbo Head Upgrade Questions
I just wanted some opinions from guys who have been around for awhile.
I have a B16a @ 9:1 compression on 20 psi. I have a set of Skunk2 stage 2 cams that I'm planning on upgrading to from my GSR setup in there right now. Althought they're not in the car yet, it seems like these cams will continue to make power above the stock redline (let's just assume I want to go to 9 - 9.5k). SO, I've been looking at valvetrain upgrades (seems like Supertech is safe and affordable). My power goals are ~450 whp to MAXIMUM 550 whp on high boost. The car is not daily driven and is mostly just driven for fun and to the track a couple times over the warmer months.
I have two questions:
1.) Do I need to upgrade valves? If I do, I'd like to use a flat-faced valve to bring my static compression up and improve my spool times. Necessary? Any recommendations? What dangers do I face with stock valves at this power level and rpm?
2.) If I replace valves, the head will obviously come off. Is a P&P a worthwhile investment? I've looked at Portflow and it seems pretty darn expensive!
Thanks for your help guys.

Re: B16 Turbo Head Upgrade Questions
You don't Need to upgrade the valves and the super techs will work with the tuner2's but if you have pro's then you will need to run the correct spring rate they require.
Port and polish is not at all needed for your hp goals. Stock head flows well enough for 750+. The flat face valves will help a little on static compression and are fine to use. I would go with ferrea valves if your going to replace them. Valve seating is pretty easy to do so you should be able to tackle it your self if y decide to do so.

Cool, thanks for your insight. Would a P&P yield anything for me as far as spool time? I mean, if it brings my spool down 800 RPM or something, that might be something I would consider.

Re: B16 Turbo Head Upgrade Questions
From my experience (which isn't HUGE), the P&P would help mostly with the upper end power as it's for greater flow. It might help your spool slightly, but I'd think it would be too small to see the change. Even slight modifications to turbos will only make them spool a couple hundred rpm's faster.
I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm incorrect with my logic....

Re: B16 Turbo Head Upgrade Questions
oem valves. due to the fact, that they have been known to BEND NOT BREAK. supertech valves will break, most likely at the neck. pm gringo if you dont believe me.
id recommend for valvetrain: supertech dual springs and titanium retainers. paired with oem valves, and new itr loss motion assembly.
the money one the port and polish could be used on a snail better suited for what you want( gt30 )
