B series turbo build q's
Well i used to have a build gsr turbo ek hatch, 9;5;1 full gsr build, crank micropolished, eagle rods, double block guarded(since i really didnt wanna go sleeves), head was type r cams, brian crower full valve train and valves, skunk2 intake mani, and little things
turbo kit was a custom gato manifold, with 57 trim turbo and just fuel system, was my daily, i made 408 whp and 298 tq on 15psi pump gas 93,
well question is, i got another ek, a ex coupe now and im looking at doing another build but dunno which route i wanna go, if i wanna go full gsr again or poormans, pretty much similar build turbo but bigger turbo now, or to go b20v boost??
Just trying to get a feeler of other peoples setups, so i can see what i wanna do and where i wanna go with the car

They don't but that's where a good solid tuner comes into play and quality parts. I'm gonna push my b20z stock sleeved block. 14-17psi well see how she holds up. I'm not too sure if that's " too high " or not but time will tell!

Re: B series turbo build q's
Umm truthfully id be happy with a 500hp setup, im not looking to sleeve the block yet, prob just double block guard like i always done to hold up a little, truthfully looking for a little fun car im gonna do a topmount setup with ac, but looking into aspects of what turbo to use and stuff right now..
but i always liked the gsr blocks , but just wondering what people suggest and where to look to start on this build

Double block guards?
No seriously, one block guard is a terrible idea, let alone two. If you want 500hp out of a Bseries, you're either going to have to seriously risk the stock sleeves (lemme guess, wanna do it on pump too?) or suck it up and sleeve the thing.

Re: B series turbo build q's
I never had any issues with one or 2 block guards i know a few people making 450+ on single block guards, ive just always been custom to 2 to help the walls, and no if im going for 500 i would be on race gas definately, just looking for a lil fun car for a lil while till i fully fully sleeve and build it, was thinking of a str8 gsr or a poormans type r setup

Correct me if I'm wrong. Block guards don't make the sleeves stronger. If the sleeves are going to crack their going to crack. The block guard is just going to hold it together.

Re: B series turbo build q's
block guards can create hot spot on the top of cylinders which can increase chances of detonation. They do nothing to prevent cracking, if anything could increase the odds per the first reason i mentioned. The CSS is a different story. i would definatly look into that if you cant afford sleeves!

Block guards won't do anything for you. People say b20 sleeves are thin. But they are actually thicker. They are just designed differently and are less forgiving when it comes to detonation. Just get a badass tuner

What fuel? And I've never heard of bad results with the css stuff. Block guards though are bad idea. What seperates css from them is its designed to be installed with proper tolerances instead of an off the shelf blockguard hammered in.

I have heard both good and bad things about block guards but if nothing else spending an extra 200 or so is worth it to be on the safe side. Just buy a good block guard. Golden Eagle for 100ish

A stock sleeved b20 making 500hp will turn stock sleeves into shrapnel... Its not a matter of how good the tune its simply a matter of too much cylinder pressure

Re: B series turbo build q's
Theres a guy on here making 500+ in Malaysia with stock sleeves and OEM rods..
i shouldve bookmarked the threads, but he says he cant get quality parts in his country w/o paying extreme duty on them.. so they use OEM ****..
Im not saying this is the best route, but I think the B20's are holding up better then the early days cuz the tunes and parts are getting better and better.
I always comb thru B20 threads and people are making decent power on stock blocks. Longevity is what the threads are lacking.. So I think its hit or miss.
500 is quite alot on an engine designed for 120hp. A harmonic balancer will def be needed!
