Default B&M Vibrating fuel pressure gauge kicks ***!

I just installed this thing and the needle f***ing vibrates! Is this normal for such a cheap gauge? What should I do, average the highest and lowest point and hope for the best? Doesn't any American company make anything worth buying anymore? I already returned 2 POS Autometer gauges and bought Defi. I'm so pissed!

You get what you pay for. Please edit the insensitive space shuttle comment.

Man, you're definitely gonna lose some points for that statement. Not cool at all.

understand what you are saying, it is a tad annoying. VDO and others make liquid filled gauges that are direct replacements for the B&M threading.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be insensitive towards the lives lost, just making a comparison to the cost cutting in American manufacturing. Didn't mean to **** anyone off.

if its all over the place, then no good. I got the same gauge on top of fuel fliter and it works fine, it vibrates plus/minus 1/2 psi - i thought it was normal, since its mechanical and fuel pressure fluctuates.

Haven't you ever posted something stupid while drinking vodka and Mt. Dew? Anyway, hopefully they'll be able to figure it out. I do believe that NASA deserves more money, don't you? It's a 20 year old design and is in desperate need of an upgrade, that's for sure.

sorry, never posted after drinking, but it was more than likely damage caused by something hitting it when it was taking off. then it just peeled apart while reentering due to the recent damage. lots of my EE professors know alot about nasa and the space program so i get alot of insight and information(angle of reentry is 1.8x degrees).

They do have new designs for the shuttles. They were just not using it right then. Plus, it seemd to work very well in the first place. Those things cost tons of dollars. I just only hope the lives lost are going to a good cause and the information that is and will be learned will be invaluable.

instead of blasting B&M, maybe if you understood how a fuell delivery system worked and how this particular gauge was designed, you would know that this is normal for that gauge. if you do no want the needle to vibrate, why not get the electronic gauge that incorporates a buffer?? the fuel pump delivers fuel in many small 'pulses" (as do almost allfluid pumps) so the reading you are gettting is actually VERY accurate. learn a little more before spouting off like an idiot!

Thanks for the input, chief! I think what I'll do instead of getting a VDO like most people here agree on is to take your advice and get an electronic gauge that incorporates a buffer. I'm sure that would be really inexpensive. Actually, professor, after doing some more reading I've found others who aren't particularly happy with this gauge either. Although your remark about spouting off like an idiot may be true, then end result was worth it because I was enlightened by your ingenious thoughts. Give me a break man! I had a REALLY bad day yesterday, drank too much and ended up venting a little online. I'm normally a pretty reasonable guy.

Would somebody please lock this thread? I embarrassed myself and this thread won't go away! BTW, thanks to those who offered advice despite my ranting.

The full sweep Autometer fuel pressure gauge is actually quite good and accurate. Just don't get the half sweep models. http://store.summitracing.com/global...e/atm-5763.jpg

Where can you get the VDO gauge that threads on the fuel filter like the B&M?

I didn't see it on their site.

Well I think the B&M comes with an adapter that accepts a 1/8" NPT gauge...I think it's http://www.egauges.com or somethign they have LOTS of VDO but I'm sure Summit and Jegs have them also.

yea my b&m vibrated ALOT when i first got it on. a few weeks later after i changed my setup around a lil and also took out the b&m and reinstalled it completely, it only vibrated like .5-1 psi in each direction. sometime the vibration is so slight u can actually see the needle pointing to just one number. liquid filled gauge will definitely help

Damn, this thread keeps coming back from the dead. I posted this on 2/11/2003! I've learned to live with the vibration, but it makes it difficult to adjust my AEM FPR. One thing I have noticed is that the larger the AEM orifice I use, the more it fluctuates. VDO gauges aren't that much money and several people have recommended them, so eventually I might get one. I haven't been able to find out if they're liquid filled, though. It serves it's purpose for now.
