Default Autometer EGT guage - which one? Pyrometer or Exhaust???

I was on summits website and the pyrometer comes with the probe kit to tap into the exhaust manifold and is only like 135 bucks, but the exhaust guage costs 220 and you have to purchase the probe kit which is like an extra 100. THey both go up to 1600. I don't see why the other one is so much more expensive. Can anybody tell me why I should get the exhaust and not the pyrometer??? Thanks....

lots of people use the GReddy EGT simply cause its on Celcius not degree's F. I guess our little B16's and B18's can get hotter than 1600 F ...

Actually, the pyrometer is the one that comes with the probe kit and the exhaust guage is the one that is more expensive and still needs to be upgraded with the probe kit. I guess it's more accurate, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. Anybody have anything to add.....???

I can tell you the pyrometer setup is cheap, inaccurate and finicky. I see more and more of them fail you are better off getting the egt and then the upgrade probe separate.

by the way, i'm offering a brand new in the box greddy egt gauge for a gangster price of 179.00. this is a white face 60mm warning gauge. its the most expensive one they sell. it comes with everything you need.

i have the autometer pyrometer kit and it comes with the probe. your exhaust shouldn't get hotter than 1400F, but the guage goes up to 1600F. it works fine, only a little slow in the reading.

I bought a Phantom EGT and probe which cost me $200.00. When i found out about the Pyrometer I called Autometer to see what's up. They said it's just a cheaper, package version. The guage generally works the same, although the probe is not as fast or accurate as the one I purchased seperately. It's not a bad thing, it's just another option that they did not have available when i purchased mine! I think it generally runs $110.00 bucks.

pretty convenient that the greddy is so much better and you're selling one

the gauge itself matters little, IMO, it's the probe. Does greddy make their own probes? I bet not... anyway, the pyrometer and EGT are the same thing, as far as autometer goes.

If you don't really care about looks you could go the cheap route like I did got a probe form a parts store and used a digital multimeter that has a temp setting , just strap the multimeter to the dash somewhere and you have an egt reading in Celsius or Ferinheiht , and it responds much quicker and is more accurate than analog gagues.
