AutoMeter Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Installation
I just bought a nice AutoMeter Air/Fuel gauge and the only question I have is which wire from the O2 sensor to I have to splice into for the Signal Wire comming out of the gauge? The instructions only say that the Signal wire from the gauge goes to the signal wire from the O2 sensor... Any input?

So these guages are just for show? I've seen people with them before but I've never personally used one. Is it worth installing it at all? I figured an AutoMeter was a good brand and it would be of some use...

The problem is narrowband O2 sensors aren't any good for tuning anything. They know rich (under 14.7:1 afr) and lean (above 14.7:1 afr). That's it.

First off the shelf autometer **** isn't the best quality unless you spend some money. Secondly Dustin is 99% right...they know 3 levels; rich, lean, and stoich (14.7). If you want to street tune your car or just need a good A/F meter for some reason get a wideband..if you don't know what that is search it!

That's false. They are also good for letting you know one of your spark plug wires came off (so lean there's no signal) hahahahhahaha (tried and true)

Re: (dustin)
I suppose if you went into boost and it showed lean it could indicate a problem?
I think they are better used to alert you if something is wrong... not for tuning purposes at all...

Yup, I found my AFRs were about 3 points lower when running on 3 cylinders.

True, and also a great way to know if your ECU is in open, or closed loop.

I don't know much about Defi gauges but anything that isn't a wideband won't do much for you... if it's a narrowband, then it's no good for tuning...
Narrowband = Bad
Wideband = Good

narrowband a/f gauges are only accurate at wide open throttle. s o drive around at WOT all day and you will get "accurate" readings

Do yourself a favor and take that piece of yo boy crap by the wires, twirl it around a few times, and throw it up to rot from a power line like a old pair of shelltops!!

Re: (dustin)
It's up on ebay for auction. I'm makin like twice of what I paid for it originally. haha...
With a wideband setup what exactly would I need...
Would my O2 sensor plug be used with the wideband or should I weld in a 2nd bung and hook up the wideband O2 sensor to a gauge?

Re: (JohnnyH)
you would want to weld in a 2nd bung for the wideband. you ECU takes the readings from the stock o2 sensor and the wideband would not work with the ecu. the aem gauge unit is nice.
