automatic transmission should I turbo it and call it a day or?
I was wondering about if I can turbo my automatic transmission d16y8 mootr and how many psi can it handle before tranny goes? And if I do how do I get past not using a tuned ecu? Heard auto ecu is hard to or not even tunable? I had a friend years ago had a d16y7 with spray and his tranny never went out... thanks ahead of time and srry for the long post... but please give me ur opions please....

Its possible, Try an Apexi afc to retain the factory transission controller, Keep the power level below 160 or so and the entire drivetrain should be pretty reliable. just keep on your transmission fluid and you should probably install a larger trans cooler and temp gauge.

Holy shitballs the forum is inundated with first time posting mouth breathers who can't even be assed to search or read tonight!
No. You can't safely tune the car without some kind of chipped ECU or standalone, and because the TCU is integrated into the stock ECU, you can't do that. Your clutch packs will also **** on you. Ditch the autotragic, put a man pedal in the car, and do it right.

You don't know about them because the transmissions eat themselves. You want to keep it auto, you need to get a specialty transmission built. You don't care about the auto transmission, you should swap it FIRST. Avoid the down-time, avoid the unexpected expense, avoid looking like an idiot in public, and avoid making every other Honda owner look bad as an extension of you.

You CANNOT tune an OBD2 Honda ecu
secondly as others have said Honda automatics do not hold up to extra torque, especially if you drve like a jackass. you'll be lucky if the car makes it off of the dyno after tuning under it's own power
5spd is the only option... "fire breathing camaro killer" or 220hp street car, the 5spd trans is the only way to reliably put the power to the ground

Also automatic trans don't sound quite the same as a 5 speed blowing off.
Do some reading learn what really goes into turboing a Honda.
There's so much info here you just need to look for it.

You can run a small turbo setup and an aem fic if they still make those.
The auto tranny may crap out in the future depending on how you drive and how much power you make... but based on your post, I suspect you will be happy with an additional 25 or 30hp ... auto should hold that for a while.

A turbo setup for an extra 25hp is pointless... if he just wants an occasional jump in power then nitrous makes much more sense... even an na build would be better suited.

Not really... turbo is not always about big power. I did a low power gsr turbo setup with a thunderbird turbo many moons ago... the car would be disappointing to most turbo owners... but for the owner in question, he was very happy with a reliable turbo DD. Car barely made 190whp.
Dunno where everyone gets their parts, but a savvy buyer can piece together a very inexpensive kit... a decent tuner with a conscience can make it work. Some people gotta boost on a budget !
A note to the OP.... automatics don't blow off unless you take your foot off the gas... auto upshifts would be rather uneventful

Ironically turbos and properly built autoboxes to handle the power are monsters for drag racing since the engine never has that split second no power delay between shifts like a manual has.

Hope you have something else to drive because the trans is going to fail a lot faster than you think it will
