ATTN TUNERS!! requesting opinion please read ... thx
Ok i was recently contacted by a gentleman on the east coast reguarding a problem he had run into .. i will give you the short of it .
1.purchased a car from a shop owner "tuner" on east coast (will remain nameless for now)
2. tuner/seller tuned car before sale
3. customer drove car less than 300 miles...... horrible smoking loss of compression ( possible crushed rings ..lands IMO)
4. customer emailed the tune file to me to go over .... i gave my opinion just wanted some of yours as well ..
D16 sohc vtec
srp pistons/
aftermarket rods 9dont remember brand)
dsm 450 cc injectors
big 16g turbo
stock map sensor
bolt on exhaust etc
here is high cam timing map s300
now i will say this ... this car was running 17.5 psi on pump gas when it was sold to customer...so with that in mind take a look at the graph and please post your opinions.. i will copy and paste my email reply to him... just want ted to show him some others that i almost guarantee will coincide with my own ..
thanks for your time
Chris Whitfield
ps this car only made 290 ish hp on 17.5 psi!

What's the point of this post, he's running 17psi on a stock map sensor? What happens between 11 and 17psi?

Exactly, I have already discussed this with him as well. It never should've left a shop on the stock map sensor and 17 psi IMO.

One of two things happened.
1) The car was tuned to 11 PSI and the guy who bought it ran it to 17.5 and blew it up.
2) The tuner didn't know what he was doing.
Need to hear more of the story.

Re: ATTN TUNERS!! requesting opinion please read ... thx (beepy)
thank you guys i really appreciate the comments this is EXACTLY what i said no that being said let me ask this
which do you think is most likely
1. between 11-17psi the timing stays at what the value is in the last colum
or
2. the ecu has absolutely no idea what to do so who the hell knows where the timing/fuel is at ...
and yes i do not know everything dealing with this story.. only what was told to me by the plaintiff (haha)... so this thread is not to point blame but rather to back up my thoughts that if this car was running 17 psi with a stock map (then bingo there is the culprit)

The ecu stays at the 11psi column, it doesn't know you're running 17psi, the map sensor is already at 5v, it just stops adding fuel and taking away timing after 11psi.

dont want to beat this to death just wanted the customer to hear it from multiple respected tuners .... yes tony i said you were respected
PS its hot as phuc in socal lately

Show me the high cam fuel map and i'll tell you if it was tuned at 17psi or at 11psi.

Exactly, anything over about 10psi boost cut on a stock map and it will never cut.

Judging by the rate of fuel increase with boost, i'm guessing that it was tuned to 17psi on the stock map, it's a deal where it'll run rich between 11 and 16psi, then be ok at 17psi. The timing is another story, no timing retard from the 11psi column.
The F.A.S.T. guys have been doing it forever, running 35-40psi on 3 bar map sensors because they didn't have the capability to use a 5 bar properly.

Oh, i completely agree, it's a terrible way to do things. $80 is WAY too expensive for a map sensor! lol

sohc's dont like timing. with no timing retard from 11-17psi im suprised it lasted 300 miles
for what its worth, i ran 20psi daily with a 57trim t3/t4 on pump gas, with stock sleeves. But i tuned it on a motorola 2.5bar map sensor. running anything over 9-10psi on a stock map sensor is just retarded.

They are basically non-exsistant.. around 22 deg in the last few columns.. looked to be not touched.
