ATP Quicktap - How to punch the hole?
I'm gonna try this new product from ATP turbo called the quicktap for my boost source for my controller. It's a fitting you tap into your coupler off the turbo for a boost source. (for those of us who don't have a fitting on the turbo) My question is they say to use a "hole puncher with a long throat" to punch a perfect 5/16" hole in the coupler for the fitting...where can i get this hole puncher or what are they talking about? They're not talking about a paper hole punch are they? lol Let me know guys i don't think i could drill the hole because that might rip the coupler. Here's the link

any hardware store will sell a 5/16 punch. its pretty much a glorified shank but the one you need is prolly more what NJIN BUILDR is linking you to...

Actually, I'd think a leather hole puncher would work much better. The metal puncher is made for rigid metals, while a silicone coupler is far closer to leather than it is to metal.

FYI I'm definately not in support of anything that introduces a possible tear point into your most crucial coupler. Even with it clamped down, you've still cut some of the reinforcement. I've seen some pretty high-end (or at least expensive!) couplers balloon out under 15-20 psi - at room temps on top of it all. If I absolutely had to use one (a drill & tap is still cheaper), I'd only use it on the super-rigid hoses you find at tractor-trailor stores.

yea i agree with you about the leather hole puncher...should work a lot better. As far as the strength of the coupler being compromised by a hole being punched though it...well...i guess i'll be the guinea pig of this new product lol...only thing i can see that will help to keep the hole from ripping is the large surface area on the back of the fitting that goes inside the coupler. Should make it more rigid. I guess we'll find out lol

Re: (GSROWNSU)
They have been selling these for a few years now.I have a couple in my tool box but ended up tapping the housing and not using them.ATP is pretty heads up,and I think if these were causing failures they just wouldn't sell them anymore.I think the quality of the hole would have a lot to do with any failure.

Drill bit would not be my first choice.Pretty easy to tear it.I'm not saying it won't work, but my preference would be punching the hole.

Ya, a drill tears the **** out of reinforced rubber/silicone. Worst case you can do an ok job with and exacto knife. But more to the point, that's a silly way to get a boost port considering the alternatives..

<<<<<----drilled hole for ATP quick tap in silicone coupler over 3 years ago.....no tearing issues.....the surface area is so small there is no chance to tear the coupler since that small surface area wont see any significant pressure.....besides once you tighten the nut on the quick tap it provides a good seal/support.
you guys are over thinking something so simple....

I have access to hole punches as well as drills. My first choice would be a punch. But like I said a drill would probably work fine.
