how many times would you guys recommend using them before changing them out.
i know there is a billion threads on this but and trust me ive gone though alot, but they are not really particular on how many times before going with a new set.
ive pulled and replaced the head 3 times now and keep going hg's ive tourqed in 3 steps and to recommended .

also had the head pressure checked and milled not warped.

mainly concered about how many times i could get out of these studs.

do it right do it once with new head studs. id use them maybe twice. maybe 3 times if the head had to keep coming off.

Taken my head off 4 times now with the same ARP studs...no issues yet...i will probably replace them next time with golden eagles.

You're supposed to measure the stretch of the bolts before and after you torque them. There should be a tolerance ARP set for them to be replaced.

What he said, if you have not overtorqued them it should be within the tolerance.. That said arp torque specs are below 80percent of the rated yield strength.. Measuring the free length and comparing it to the tolerance is your best bet..

That is good to know about the 80%. I usually torque a set of arps about half a dozen times before I would go buy new ones. After about 3 or 4 times being tq'd id go like another ft/lb on them just to make sure.

you ever had the block decked? if you keep running through headgaskets somethings not right....haveing the head milled is good but its gotta have a flat deck surface on the block as well.

are you blowing headgaskets or just getting headlift in the upper rpms?

also double check with arp they came out a year or two ago and changed recomendations to a two step torquing process....iirc 15-65 then retorque to 65 after 100-200miles....i find i usually have 1 or 2 that need tightening after the 100-200 miles

not sure i just have oil from that coner ever one knows what i am talking about. and coolent seems to be disapearing all though the fluids check fine. but i do smell some

the block has not been decked but i can check it out if i pull the head off . im going to retorque to 84flbs this week end and see what happens.

84flbs really?!? what does arp say to torque to....

arp says that over torqueing will not give any better sealing qualities as there recomendations, it only causes premature failure....mine have been torqued like 5 times and i have them at like 68-70 dont remember just cause i figured the've streched.....running 22psi out of an hx35 with no lifting or sealing issues on mine

80ft/lbs is what the mine said. Not sure if it's different for the D's tho.

i think its 80 something with regular oil

and 60 something with the moly lube

use regular oil where the studs go into the block, 10 ftlbs. do 3 steps 25-50-80 with the moly lube for the nut on top.

ive rarely seen a blown honda hg leak externally. that oil on the head is most likely from the camcap plug behind the vtec solenoid or the solenoid gasket itself.

what hg are you using? oem/cometic etc???

is it possible you have a little too much timing in your tune causing excess pressure and lifting the head blowing out the gasket'?
