b/c no one really knows how to tune it
when people sell it for 450 they dont include the commander.

im selling my power fc its brand new i used it one month
kinda contradicting eh? j/k

i think its just because theres not too many people that run the power fc in hondas (that ive heard at least) its very popular with FD's though and im sure with a knowlagable tuner it would be just as good as most other similar products out there

this one will only work on odb-ii and odb-iib cars (96-00 civics and some integras)

btw, 99% of people that say its a poor choice or that its hard to tune have never even touched the powerfc before..

I have used it for 3 years now. Keep it, once you know how to use it youll love it. There is no limits on anything, you can run any map, any injectors. The list goes on. It dont however give fancy graphics or anything

Theres probably no reason you can't, you can run a odb-i ecu in a odb-ii car with just a different wiring harness.. i wouldn't see why you can't run a powerfc in an odb-i car.

that ECU is NOT for an OBD IIB car. it's for an OBDII (ie 96-98 Civic)

Who said that it isnt a good choice for a turbo car? i run it on a turbo b18c put out 410 hp @ 20 psi stock with a pretty stock motor minus the rods n pistons. Drive it on the street all the time, i even drove the car out of town with it 1000 miles did pretty good, got 27 mpg. Lets see what else, Apex will have a windows program for it soon , just gotta be patient, imma run it on my race car cuz i love it soo much! i guess i cant that i dont like any of the other Fuel management cuz ive never used any other but this one, but im extremly happy!!

good thing apex'i sells an adaptor to use it in a odb-iib car. or you can re-wire the ecu harness like i did

find a new tuner.it is a great piece and you will be glad once you get it right.i got mine back from base tuning at xs engineering and hardly had to change anything.

The reason your shop doesn't want to set your base map is because they probably dont have the necessary program to write the base maps. In order to modify the base map you need to go to a tuner or Apexi dealer that has the PowerExcel program (I believe the DataLogit can write base maps too, not sure though).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you NEED to find a dealer with the PowerXL or DataLogit if you want to re-write your base maps. You should be able to send just the PowerFC unit and mail it to a PowerXL dealer and give them your specs, mods and info, and they can write a base map for you. Then once you get it back and re-install the PFC unit you can take your car to a dyno and adjust the user controlled maps to fine tune it some more.

BTW, once you get the base map written for your car, that doesn't mean you are set to go tear-assin in your car. You still need to take your car to get it dyno tuned, until you do that you should drive the conservatively.

when your talking about "base maps" your talking about a second level of tuning that i've never had to touch. i've only had to change the ignition and fuel maps on the commander.

learn how to make changes like +5% fuel at 4000-5000 under 15psi, its not very difficult and then work with your tuner and just have them tell you what changes to make.

heres basicly what i did with a b16b base map from japan
1) set the injectors to 38% for 720cc
2) on the fuel map set everything blow cell 10 from 3000 rpm to 149 (max fuel)
3) on the ignition map set everything below cell 10 from 3000 rpm to 16 degrees
4) on low boost, tune fuel, raise boost, tune ignition and your basicly set.

and a quick tip, if you need more fuel at x rpm at all boost levels goto PIM volt and increase it there

Yep, that's cause the actual base map values themselves can only be altered with the PowerExcel program which is only available at select dealers and tuners (though warez copies do exist). The values that everyone adjusts with the commander increase or decrease the actual base maps values by a certain percentage (IIRC).

A lot of my research is from http://www.rx7clu.com and it is based on the RX7's PFC, but I am certain that the Honda PFC's function the same. One thing that I've noticed in the RX7 forums about base maps; different tuners come up with different base map values. XS engineering for example, does their base maps differently from everyone else and they keep them a secret. So that means that the if 2 cars with similar mods were to have a PFC with XS engineering base maps on one car and another tuner on the other then the USER adjusted values may not match up.

But once again that's what I've seen on http://www.rx7club.com, but it is probably the same for the Honda/Acura PFC's.

Just a word of warning, before someone decides to try out brian b's USER defined values. Altough I am not 100% sure about all the stuff I said about base maps, I would not recommend that anyone uses somebody elses USE defined settings.

Assuming you have the same mods list as brian b, you would still need to have the same base map as him. So even if you have the exact same mods as him, if your 2 base maps are not similar, then his user defined settings may not work for you. ou could run to rich or too lean, etc etc.

EDIT: also, for those of you that want to try to learn how to use your PFC better, try download the manual in .PDF version. An english version of the RX7 PFC is available, so maybe the Honda/Acuras manual is available too.
