Anyone use Rotella T Synthetic Oil in their turbo cars and Wix oil filters........
I hear a lot of people with their LS1 motors swear by it. I even had a mechanic swear by it. He said people think it is for trucks only but its new formula is also good for cars.
The weight is 5-40 and it helps quiet the car down they say due to the slightly higher weight and some additives.
What do you guys think?
There was 1 old post on here, but I don't think it was in a FI car.
You can even buy it at Walmart and easier to find than Amsoil, which I currently run.

Is this the oil with the zinc and manganese or whatever, diesel/"heavy duty" oil with extreme pressure additives? If so, it could be the ****. Certain cam manufacturers even recommend it for use with flat tappet cams to avoid cam lobe/lifter wear with higher pressure springs.

Re: (rorik)
I've heard Rotella T is the shizzle. Problem is, the stuff is super expensive. I can't justify spending that much extra on oil just yet. Most oil analyses post-use on rotella t are incredibly good.

Re: (rebo0t)
The ls1 guys are raving about the rotella t (and some others) because it is a good oil that has not yet had the Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate (ZDDP) (antiwear additive mostly of zinc and phosphorus) PPM levels cut as heavily as some other oil traditionally used in light duty truck/ car applications. OEMs have been and are continuing to push to reduce ZDDP levels because of the potential increased wear it causes on emissions components.
In fact here is a good article in the latest issue of HPP about it, read it if you have a moment it has some good information in it. Specifically the area covering the dropping PPM levels of ZDDP that are affecting flat tapped cam setups and some higher valve spring pressure applications seen with aftermarket springs.

Thanks for the info guys. I might just use that on my next oil change.
FYI-Rotella T at Walmart for the big 4 quart is cheaper than the Royal Purple 4 quart jug.
If it is a better oil than my Amsoil (which is bank), then why not just get some at Walmart.
Is the difference in weight in the oil going to make a huge difference on our boosted cars??

Re: (Urugly)
I bought a few 4qt jugs of 15W-40 from Autozone for $9.99 each. It was the non-synthetic stuff and we're using it for break-in. It was recommended by our engine builder because it has higher levels of Zinc in it.
