Anyone running a 3.5" exhaust?
I did a search and came up with nothing
Just curious if anyone has piping this big on their car. I'm debating wether to go 3" or 3.5", but if I can get away with going with a 3.5 then that's the way I'd go. I'd be making this myself, so price would be fairly low.
If anyone would have piping this big, then post up some pics!
Thanks

what is your setup??? i dont think there is any need for 3.5" exhaust but i could be wrong.. 3" is great.. most people also run 2.5" and are ok..
im running an apexi n1 catback 2.5" now and i might go up to a 3" exhaust when i replace the exhaust.. but i would also get a 3" downpipe at the same time when i do it.. and if i get a 3" downpipe i also want to get a new exhaust manifold while im spending $300 on a downpipe.. so this upgrade could be a while away for me

I don't think you will benefit much from 3.5" piping unless you are pushing an ungodly amount of power. My buddy has a 4" downpipe but he is making a little over 600whp with a huge turbocharger. Let us know your results

I think the general consencus of this thread goes something like this: "I've never heard of it, it can't work." How can you people be so closed minded?
I say go for it. Who cares if you need it? If 3" makes more than 2.5", why won't 3.5" make more than 3"?

Good point! I personally run 3". Downpipe all the way back.

where did you get this idea?? so far no one has said "it wont work" looks to me like everyone is saying why? because it has no benifit other then for a car pushing rediculous power...
it's not like this is something that hasen't been done or thought of before... you just don't need it.
BTW: your logic in your last sentance is completely wrong. If someone else wants to explain the exhaust theory of a turbo system thats fine, but I'm too lazy nor do I fully understand it myself...

I'm sure weight isn't going to be to much of an issue.
Generally people without huge setups don't go any bigger than 2.75 cause its useless for the amount of exsaust gases being created by our smaller displacement engines. The bigger the pipe gets...you'd think the better the flow but you start to mess up air flow if the pipes are to big.

i would only run 4inch if i had 600 plus whp. if your making lower then that 3 inch will be fine... you pick a odd size dont yea think..

a 4" exhaust flows 77% more volume then a 3" exhaust, a 3.5" exhaust flows 30% more then a 3" exhaust, and a 3" exhaust flows 44% more volume then a 2.5" exhaust... Turbo's don't like back pressure. think about it guys.

in theory... but ever here of a thing called the law of diminishing returns? depending on his goals and setup, anything over 3" may be overkill.

thats why the first question I asked him was how much power he is trying to make.

If you want to go bigger than 3" (and you truly need the flow) just go with 4". We flared Duc's and Brian's 3" off the V-band to 4" then it runs all the way back and works well. Just my $0.02 tho

Re: Anyone running a 3.5" exhaust? (Kataku2K3)
I wanna say that on most street cars 3" is perfect. but most isn't all, and there are alot of street cars out there making some serious F'n power that will gain from a 3.5" exhaust and maybe even a 4".. Basically if you run 4" thats your exhaust forever haha.

Re: Anyone running a 3.5" exhaust? (Canuk_SiR)
Like the saying goes, the best exhaust for a turbo is basically no exhaust at all since backpressure on the exit side of the turbine does nothing for spool up or power. I have all the parts for a 3.5" system, just finishing up a few other things before I fit the exhaust on the car. Even with everything being stainless is wasn't that spendy to piece together so go for it! I'll put up some pics soon - I need to get my *** off the computer and on to the bandsaw.
