anyone with a quaife LSD, bearings = toasted?

refer to that thread...
cliff notes: tranny started making wierd, horrible noises, yet drove fine, shifted fine, no grinding
friend had gone to the drag strip a couple weeks earlier, he makes 300-320 whp, and he mentioned that he was getting a bit of wheel hop in the water box when he was doing a burnout
i'm assuming that was the reason why the bearings ended up looking like this:
axle seal was torn, only 4 ***** were left in the bearing...the rest...well, you figure it out
add ".orig.jpg" to this: http://www.imagestation.com/pi...2.jpg
to see the picture in full size...
any other reason why the bearing would've died such a horrible death?

Re: anyone with a quaife LSD, bearings = toasted? (Toda Party)
when did he get this sound from the tranny?
reason i ask is a get a similar sound from my LS tranny w/ quaife more of a "buuuuurrrrr" sound rather than crackles.
its only above ~3k or so.
Im about to pull my motor so I can see if my fluid is in the same shape as his.

i'm not exactly sure, i remember we were crusing around and we kept smelling burning tranny fluid, and then i think the next day he was just driving around town when he heard a clattering/clinking sound @ partial throttle, especially while turning (which makes sense now that we know it was the bearing)
the car still drove great though, if you were deaf, you'd never know anything was wrong...except the tranny fluid coming out silver lol

Did you put new bearings in when you installed the quaife...It takes quite a bit of force to remove those bearings from the stock diff, if you don't do it right you can damage the bearings....always best to use new bearings when changing the diff.

mine made some high pitched noises the faster i would go, and then one day the bearings got worse and crack. ring gear wobbled came round hit a pin in the casting, ate some teeth off, and cracked my case. now that sucked. bearings were toast....

its the same case, we just finally dropped the tranny the other day
we checked clearance this time hehe
earl, we drained the fluid when it was making the noise, came out silver, filled it back up, drove it around the block, drained it, came out silver again, then we just stopped driving becasue that just wasnt right haha
we used a bearing puller to pull the beraings off...
