ive seen people with the exhaust side like glass. smoothe as it gets and exhaust flows great.. intake side should stay a little rough so that fuel can atomize

I think it's generally been decided that having a mirror like finish is not going really an optimal setup. It may look nice when the head is off however it will have an adverse effect on your final numbers.
Although I am not 100% familiar with why this is if I remember correctly it has to due with how the finish effects velocity and fuel atomization as it enters the combustion chamber.
If you do a search you can find some more detailed answers I am sure

About five minutes of idle will undue all that polish.Carbon will stick even to a highly polished surface.

is that a yamaha head? bikes can sometimes use the super smooth finish for their high revs and unrestricted scavenging.

Actually it's been proven that carbon has a much harder time adhearing to polisehd surfaces. Hence why most head porters do not produce mirror finishes.

I think it looks great and they should all be done like that
This is a controversial subject, so many people disagree with polishing mainly the intake side, for fuel atomization or I've heard some say that air "rolls" on the surface rather than "slides"..
As far as the fuel atomization arguement goes, the injectors on our (any many other) cars spray fuel basically onto the back of the intake valve, so there isn't much room for a rougher port to help atomize the fuel.
For the fluid dynamics part of this controversy, I really don't know. I mean, if you look at a golf ball, they do put those dimples on the surface so that the ball will travel farther, and it works. I'm no expert though.

Looks real good man, nice detailed work
Hey can you do us a favor and post pics of the same head after some measured time of use? That might help to understand how carbon sticks to shinny surfaces, and it will give you an idea of how valuable all that work was.

My head looked like that. Key word LOOKED. You can spend as much time as you want but it will all be ruined when it get covered in carbon. The thing about not polishing the intake ports so fuel can atomize is for carburetors and it is so that fuel doesnt puddle. With 50 psi fuel pressure and 20 lbs. of boost behind that your ports can be as smooth as you want them to be.

Are there any articles or test to prove this? If you think about it, I can see where it makes sense, but I have seen many Supercharged V-8 cars where the intake ports are left rough also.
