Default Anyone know anything about holset turbos?

Ok, i know jdavis is generally the holset goto guy, but he's never on, lol

Im looking at an hx-55 for my 2-liter b20vtec build... (b16 tranny)

the hx55 flows about 1290cfm, enough for about 1024 crank hp by my math... this may seem like alot, but i want a turbo that has breathing room, the holset has a very broad compressor map (you can fit a whole t04b map inside the 70% portion of an hx35)

turbine appears to be a t3, 14cm2 or 16cm2, something along those lines

My question is this... Anybody know what sort of spool up time im looking at, lag doesnt bother me too much, i should be spinning my motor over 9k. ill just use a 25 shot of nitrous to help overcome the lag.

i was looking at an hx35-hx40 combo... baiscally an hx35 turbine with a modified hx40 60mm compressor wheel and housing. It would offer decent spool and enough flow for roughly 729 crank hp, but im hoping to pass that number at the track, which is why i was looking at the hx55

The HX55 has either a 67mm inducer or a 71mm inducer on the compressor wheel. They have been known to make 870whp.

Plain and simple this turbo is just too big.

hmm, the turbo that i was looking at was being called an "hx55" but looked nothing like that... glad i didnt buy it.

ok, so now its down to either an hx35, hx40 or an hx35/40 hybrid.

Im looking for around 700-800whp on either vp c12 or methanol... around 400-500 on pump

if you plan on that power got with the hx40 it should be plenty i have run the hx35 and hx 30 on the integra engines and they flow pretty damn good. but for the high hp aps go with the hx40

so you think the hx40 would be a poretty good choice? I;ve ehard the hx35's spool aroung 4400 on a stock b16, that was with the 12cm2 housing. I'd have to imainge the hx40 is atleast a 14 or 16cm2.

I've been looking around for an hx40 compressor map.. any sources?

cool, if you could maybe shoot me the pic through pm or email - wantboost@hotmail.com

the service literature would be awesome as well

ifi can manage to find one, id probably have it mildy ported and get a pulse mani custom made.. im just worried about choking the turbine housing up top

lol, 12cm^3 would be huge.

what concerns me about using the holset is just lack of aftermarket info... i know a few ppl have used then with good results, the were running at low boost, a b16 made like 240@8 psi.. but the holset wasnt designed for use at low pressure ratios, so this doesnt bother me.

its flow characteristics in the upper rev ranges under high pressure ratios.
as soon as b18b's email goes through, i should have some better info. woot woot

we could.... just have to build a proper manifold

i'm still debating over the turbo for the kart, t25 would be nice, but it would spool soon and i cant afford tires, lol

i may be mistaken but that looks like a turbo out of a diesel.
i know holset makes the turbos that come in the dodge hd rams, and dump trucks
actually not that long ago at my job we had a ram dually,it came in for a driveability, the customer stated the truck was dog and wasn t preforming how it used to.well its turns out that the guy had one of those hypertech module thingy and had been messin around with it ...long story short the turbo took a crap and wasnt spining and got replaced and no warranty didnt cover it...oh yeh its a big turbo..let me know if u want a picture

drum, I noticed you said yours was a 3" v-band. . . mine is coming off at 2.5"

What did your turbo come off of? Mine was off of a 8.9 liter vortec engine powering a generator.

mine came off a timber loader. looking for a smaller exhaust housing. it a h1c with a 18.5cm^2 housing, but it was free. i work at the dealership.

what do you guys think this would spool at with a crfab ramhorn style on a b16?

should i try to find a 9, 12, or 14 cm^2 housing?

dragsource, mine will take a 3" vband, but i think the pipe would be a 2.5"

I'm just going to run this 2.5 inch with a flair to 3 inch for the downpipe. . . . I wish it came off as 3" damnit.

alright i think i found a 12cm^2 housings off of a hx35w. will this fit on my h1c? also im going to be using an external wastegate, so i could either weld or pin the wastegate flapper shut right?

do you guys think this would make a good combo, the h1c compressor and center section with the hx35 12cm^2 turbine housing on it?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

i got mine from any 93-99 turbo dodge diesel pickup...hx35w

its a 3" vband but the holset flange is fat *** ****...so i took a big grinder got it close and then took some sand paper on a block and made it flat...using my universal 3" vband flange as a guide for depth....then put my 3" vabnd flnag on a 3" mandrel bent pipe and put the 2 sucka's together...its so fresh and so clean i love the vband

if all goes well by this time next week ill be able to give you guys some good info on the 12cm housing and how it spools on an ls/vtec...tuning idle today!
