Anyone had tuning issues with bigger injectors?
I am asking becuase i am running Seimen Deka 860cc injectors. RacerXadam was gracious enuff to come down to my place to get my car to idle and driveable.
I thought on my basemap the car wouldnt idle becuase it was too rich. but when we put the wideband on it we realized at idle it was like 19:1 a/f. it was crazy. He needed to add a **** load of fuel into it to get it to idle. When i looked at my plug before he came down though they were soaked in fuel . i dont get it . But basically from what i saw of the work he had to do to the maps he needed to richen pretty much all of the maps up quite a bit . i think one of the base maps we used was one of the ones Hondata gives, the b18c turbo and we made changes to that becuase the base map i made wasnt working correctly when we tried to play with it .
Anyone have any ideas or revalations on this ?

Maybe it's a fuel atomization issue. Unatomized fuel doesn't burn well and the UEGO sensor won't read them either b/c the sensors only read the gaseous oxygen content. The liquid state fuel droplets don't register on the sensor's sample content.
Maybe you need to switch to using two sets of injectors in sequential.
What kind of nozzle design are the Deka's? Are they Lucas disc type? I wonder what the spray pattern is.

deka are pintle style injector the ball and seat rochestor units are better overall in spray pattern. But you should have that problem with the injectors though. What the part number on the SD 880cc you have

i forget the part number. its whatever they are for the 860cc
i dunno if the gas is stail or not , i had it sitting in the tank for **** like 8 months? i dunno if that could be part of it too. i guess ill check my plugs to make sure they are all spraying , but i prob would have gotten a missfire code if anything. the only code we got was the 02heater code when the wideband was in . nothing else.

Re: (itr206)
I honestly think it was just the big injectors taking a long time to open vs. the small ones and using the the injector calculator doesn't account for that. It should run fine when you put fresh gas in it.

Adam did you happen to see if it was unusual duty cycles or anything? I mean its running great now no doubt, i just never heard of this happening before and was curious if anyone else has noticed this.?

Thanks , heres the response i got from Him .same thing as Adam said i guess. i just never heard of this being an issue before.
TurbodCX (8:20 AM 2/3/2004): Yeah i have 880's in my car. I am using precision's/
I also had to had alot a lot of fuel to my base map to make the car idle correctly. I was idling in the mid 19's with the base map. i now have it tuned to 13.5-14.0 in the idle area.
TurbodCX (8:20 AM 2/3/2004): I think we had to add fuel because of the delay time it takes for a big injector to open up.

This is exactly what is going on. I have 850cc RC's which are Bosch style injectors. I had to add some fuel in the lower part of my map to get it to idle OK. I idle at 950 and it still runs lean, like 17-18 to 1. It idles fine though so I left it alone.

ITR, how old is the gas?

the gas has been sitting in the car for about 8 months maybe . the car runs great right now . Adam just had to do quite a bit to the maps to clean up the leanness in spots and richness in other spots.

Re: (itr206)
did you smell the gas? Does it smell stale? I leave gas in my car for over 8 months and never had a problem with it going stale. Put some stablizer in it and fresh 94 octane. Also was your car going from hot to cold a lot? Like sitting in your garage and then you would heat it and then it would get cold while it was sitting? You could have water in the gas also from warming to cooling. Put some dry gas in it also

Re: (itr206)
you may have got water in the gas especially if you let the car sit with not a full tank of gas. With getting warm and then the ice cold weather we have had it is very possible. Dry gas is like a dollar. Try that it may help you
