Anyone ever rebuilt their own turbos?
Im in the need of a turbo rebuild, and from what i read from this article, it sounds pretty easy. http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/turbo.htm
Have any of you guys rebuilt a t3/t4 turbo? i think my oil seals are going bad, cuz smoke starts to come out of my muffler at idle. please let me know what you think. thanx guys.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my t3. Heres another site, that deals with building volvo t3's. Its not hard, As long as the wheels havent hit the housings. You can pick up the rebuild kits for under 100, and it comes with all the seals and new bearings. I dunno about a t3/4 though. I dont think anyone sells a hybrid rebuild kit.

Yup, I did it, pretty easy. You'll need snap ring pliers. Got new bearings and seals from Turbonetics. Just make sure you scribe a line on your turbine shaft and compressor before taking it apart so that when you reassemble you can align it like it was and you don't have to rebalance.

Re: Anyone ever rebuilt their own turbos? (filetofit)
thanx for the informative reply guys. Since i don't know the specs on my turbo, ( i bought it used) i think im gonna yank it off my car and take it to Turbo city in Orange, Ca this weekend. I had another question, im pretty sure my turbo isnt ball bearing, is it difficult, or costly to upgrade to a BB?
i was also told that you can't rebuild a t3/t4 either cuz they dont make the rebuild kits for it, or because its hybrid??

i did mine and i think the shaft was fucked. talk to customcockpits he can get you a fully rebuitl center section with compressor wheel and turbine wheel. for really cheap like 130+or- so you will not have any down time.
