Anyone cracked an iron sleeve?
Any of you ever crack or put a hole in an iron sleeve? If so, where on the sleeve and why do you think that would occur?

Re: Anyone cracked an iron sleeve? (XES)
no sleeves is indestructible no matter what the manufacturer said....all metal will have a stresss and fracture point in which it will crack.
detonation, bad install, overheating are some of the biggest reason why sleeves crack..this goes to stock or aftermarket ductile iron sleeves...
most of the problem I have heard of ductile iron sleeves are out of roundness. This condition happens when the cylinder runs so hot that the cylinder basically formed an oval shaped, you will not be able to tell by a naked eye, but you use a cylinder bore gauge and you can tell how far one side of the sleeves streches...

Earl, Mike and Tony will be a good source to ask for more information, Thye have been through this more than any of use will ever imagine...

Re: Anyone cracked an iron sleeve? (b18bturbo)
I've seen many motors with destroyed pistons, but intact sleeves. I'm looking for anyone with intact pistons and a hole in the top of the sleeve (above where the ring makes contact). The hole appears to travel between vylinder 2 & 3 (2mm by 1mm hole which is 1.5mm from the top of the sleeve).

We have a LIFETIME warranty against sleeves cracking!!! We guarantee that you will never crack a sleeve due to boost pressure under 60 psi ( detonation excluded!! ) as long as the bore size is within our recommended size range for the application. Up to 85 mm can be bnoosted as much as 60 psi!!!! Trust me, we have done it for testing and it was fun, yet very scary

Re: Anyone cracked an iron sleeve? (GoldenEagleMfg.com)
i have a this happen on one of my h23 blocks that was sleeved last year
some how my inline fuel pump blew a fuse and can went lean and the top pistons rings broke in about 50 pieces on 3&4 pistons and cut a grove in the of the sleeve on top about 1mm and about 2mm's down from the top of the block
so i rebored to 87.5mm on that block i had 87mm

From what Vince has told me Golden Eagle is the only company that installs Golden Eagle sleeves. Just thought I would reply since GEM is busy as hell (get to work on my block crackuh ).
