Default Anybody here open their own tranny??

Just curious if anybody here has/does their own transmission work? As you may or may not know, my 4th gear in the GS-R has long been shot, and I'm looking around for replacements and well.. it isn't pretty. So I was wondering, being that I do have at least basic mechanical know-how and do most of the work on my cars myself.. is tranny work something of a rocket-science nature or can I combat this myself? Ant ideas would be appriciated

You can do it yourself, just make sure to do all the research first, not after you drop the tranny. Heres a link to a good how to page for dropping the tranny: http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...h.php

HA!! the helms is only good for putting the **** back in the right order.... it takes a lot of pacience and finess to get it back the right way......... i did it on my h-series after making my own "special" gears...... mine was probably more of a bitch due to the differences in the gears........ anyway, just take your time, and dont try to do it in a day

definitely do-able. The only time you'll run into trouble is when you don't use the manual. Just make sure you have all the correct tools and whatever need to do the measurements and you'll be alright. The only thing you'll have to do is bring some stuff to a machine shop and have them press on/off the gears.
Go slowly, and take pics of what it looked like before you took it apart if you have a digicam.
