ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
SO I went and got my GSR tuned on 15psi the block is fully built with only a valve job and P&P done.
The tuner said because my pistons are only 8:5:1 that its hurting me for horsepower.....
The car made 279whp
242lbs. of torque
My goal is to hit 300 just wondering what it will take to get there??

thats very low for 15 lbs... you must have a terribly small or inneficient turbo... and 8.5 CR is very low.... you should bump to 9.0+

to play devils advocate, many are making great power with stock cams, i made over 500 on a bb16 with gsr's. granted that was 28 psi with 1200's on a t3t67ho.
there isnt enough information from the o.p. to properly diag why the power is low.
we need injector and turbo size atleast.
goin back to my old setup, t3t04b drag kit, with 750's made 330 with a slipping clutch. 8.8:1 compression.

Re: ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
Need to know the following before anyone can give you any real advice:
-what turbo
-what intake manifold/tb
-turbo mani
-who did your head work
-exhaust size
-post your dyno sheet
But judging by the numbers you posted, I'm inclined to say you have a turbo that's on the small side with a restrictive exhaust.

That is super low power, probably the lowest per psi i have seen out of a B so something isn't right, that compression isn't that bad. Give us all the information that was asked for. Your full setup, dyno sheets, what engine management??

just turn the boost up a little you only need 20hp to hit the 300hp. The turbo must be small and spool quick to make 242tq.

Re: ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
well your exhaust is not your problem ive made well over 500 hp on a 2.5" exhaust many times
i see nothing that is holding back your power maybe your tuner?
ive made 300+ on a gsr
bone stock gsr 880's precision sc34 on 8psi put down 301whp

my tuner was shawn church... so I dont think it was the tuner he did say he was getting inacurate readings from the A/F meter he was using like a exhaust leak..... and had to use my in-car innovative wideband ....IDK

Re: ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
Yeah def something wrong there. What are the specs on the turbo? (t3/t4 is not enough) even with the low comp is very low on power. What cams and whats redline?
I made 340whp on a stock gsr at 10.5 psi.

Re: ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
t3/t4 huh, geez, so much detail... what t3/t4 exactly do you have? If it's a t3/t04b thats normal power, compression has nothing to do with it, i made 333whp with a GT3076R at 12psi with 8.3 compression on a b16.
Your exhaust is small too, your log manifold isnt helping either.

Re: ANy other ideas on gaining horsepower with fully built block
Did you guys try dynoing at a lower boost to see if it was just a problem up high?? I would start as low as you can and work up until you see when it stops dropping power per psi.

What sort of dyno was it? I wouldn't worry about the peak numbers as much as the shape of the graph. Without the graph, we can't really tell you where you're going wrong.
