Is any one ECU better for Hondata?
I have a 93 prelude VTEC with a P13 ECU. These are the ECUs that Hondata says will work in my application:
P72,P30,P28,P61
Are anyone of these ECUs better than the other for my application or the all equivalent?

They will all work well. The P72 is the most desirable since it can control the secondary intake runners. It is also usually the hardest to get and most expensive. The P28's are starting to get up there in price, too.
If you had the choice between a 100 dollar P28 or a 300 dollar P72, I'd take the P28.

Then convert the P06 to VTEC yourself. It's just a handful of components.
I'd rather do a P06 --> P28 conversion than swap an alternator. My $0.02.

although it will not run the vtec. Hondata is not curretnly converting p06's to run vtec.

If Hondata isn't currently converting P06s to run vtec, how would I know that I have a true P28 conversion? I don't want to drive to the tuner, only to find out I just have a P06 which can't control vtec.

Post up a pic of the top of the ECU motherboard, I can tell you if the correct components have been added.

edit: or are any of the other useable ECU's (P74,P75,P28,P30,P72,P61) pretty cheap/easy to find?

For motherboard 02D011F0-1500 aka "11F0"... just look for a number of missing parts: Here (dialup beware) versus yours. I have no parts listing for these as I do the "1720" because I've never owned an 11F0 ECU... but I'm sure if you have components at IC13 and IC14 you're fine.
For motherboard number 02D01720-1500 (printed across the top of the motherboard, to the right of the denshigiken/IPT logo) ... I doubt you have the "1720" VTEC converted P06, I believe the first successful conversion was a couple weeks ago... there needs to be these parts on a P06 to activate VTEC:
Q26: C2785 (transistor)
C75, C89,C72,C74,C88: 22pF (?) ceramic cap
C60: 1uF 35v electrolytic cap
IC13, IC14: SK5050S high side switch
R66,67: 820 Ohm, 1/8w 5% resistor (grey,red,brown,gold)
RM11: weird voltage divider (I think the P06 one is not the same as the P28)
D11: any random diode

J. Davis, thanks for the help!
I have this one: 02D011F0-1500
Your massive picture is still loading on my 56k connection, lol. I'll save the pic and check it later when I have the ECU with me. Thanks again!

We are not taking p06's from customers to be modified. We are selling p28's that were converted from p06's.
