Default (another noob question) Which T3 turbo for the D? T3 .42/.48 OR the 60?

Which one of the T3's should I go with. I want some decent lag, and plenty of power at the top. Is the 60 overkill? Is it harder than the .42 to get on or is it the same? Going on my D16Z6. I need something that holds. Ill be using it on the street and for drag.

Thanks

1. Basically, Im not worried about lag. With the lag, ill get a little more traction as well.

2. Probably the 60-1 T3. (The bigger of the T3's that works w/the D motors)?? I belive? (not sure).

3. Lastly, something that holds boost all the way to redline, and doesn't lose boost like the T25.

Does this help?

I really appreciate the responses. I appologize for the boring question Im just trying to figure out which of the 2 to pick.

Super60? That would be best?

1) Yes, lag can be your friend...especially on street tires.
2) The 60-1 is not a T3 compressor and is also not the "Super 60". The 60-1 is a T04S compressor wheel. The T3/60-1 is a T3/T04S hybrid turbo with a T3 turbine housing and T3 turbine wheel mated to a T04S compressor wheel and usually either a T04E or T04S compressor housing. The "Super 60" is a compressor wheel that is in the T3 family of compressors. Basically, you have the 40 trim, 45 trim, 50 trim, 60 trim, and beyond that is the "Super 60". The Super 60 is a small step up from the 60 trim T3 compressor. The Super 60 did not come in any production cars equipped with Garrett T3 turbos. If you're looking to buy a used turbo or a junkyard turbo, the one you want is from an earlier 300ZX turbo or Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe. The Thunderbird came with a Garrett T3 with a .63 a/r turbine housing, stage 1 T3 turbine, 60 trim T3 compressor, and .60 a/r compressor housing.

Confused yet?

If you're going with a new turbo, get the T3/T04E hybrid:

.48 a/r T3 turbine housing
Stage 3 T3 turbine
50 or 54 or 57 trim T04E compressor wheel
.60 a/r T04E compressor housing

If you want more lag (and top end power), you can use the .63 a/r turbine housing.

60-1 wont spool too well on a D series

youll be good with a T3/T04e 57 or 60 trim with a .48 a/r exhaust housing. You can get them for relatively cheap at http://www.cheapturbo.com ($550)

Although the t3 .42/.48 works perfect on the sohc. Spools soon and makes decent power up to redline with no problem. If you go with a t3t4 I would go with something like a t3t40E 50 trim with .48 A/R.

I use a T3 60 compressor with a .48 A/R Stage III turbine. It hits full boost, 9psi, by 3800rpm and holds that boost until redline easily.

Go with a 50 or 60 trim with a .60 a/r and a .48 exhaust.

Ohh, that's the one I was lookin at a while ago. With the 50 trim. That put down some really impressive #'s for a D. 209hp @ 9psi.
