are all aftermarket sleeves closed deck?
I'm looking at buying a motor. the guy thats selling it claims it is a b18 sleeved to 84.5mm. but it also has a blockgaurd. That doesnt make much sense to me. ithough all aftermarket sleeves would not facilitate a block gaurd. I dont care much for the price hes asking i could have it sleeved and still come out ahead. But is it possible to have aftermarket sleeves and a block gaurd

Yes, I have Darton open deck sleeves, but I don't use a block guard, I heard they can cause heating/cooling problems for the cylinders. I've been running 20 PSI of boost for a year now and the sleeves are in great shape (had them checked out when I had the head off of it last week)

In that case I'm really glad I didn't install one.

Re: are all aftermarket sleeves closed deck? (darkdayz)
ended up not buying it. I thaught the action ended at 11 but it was earlier than that. so i slept through it. Ii would have had the block resleeved though. I have a feeling it was just bored to 84.5mm not sleeved.

Its possible to fit block guards in a sleeved block. But of course its not recommended. there's no need for a block guard in a sleeved block anyways. Its already a strong cylinder sleeve and doesnt need the support of the block guard.
It will just block off the top part of the coolnt passage and inefficient cooling is at that top part of the sleeve.
