aftermarket cam, please explain? (vtec newb)
I'm new to vtec since I come from ls1 v8's. When a person gets a custom grind of a vtec cam, does the baseline pre-vtec grind stay the same and just the 2nd grind changes? Is it possible to get a grind like this for a turbo when vtec kicks in and for high mpg when vtec isn't in. Sorry for the very simple question but I can't seem to find anything when i search.

you can have a custom cam ground to any spec you want if you want to spend big $$.
off the shelf aftermarket cams typically keep low cam (out of vtec) profiles similar enough to stock profiles that good mpg is maintained. you can easily still get 30 mpg with low rpm "normal" driving if you have aftermarket cams, this depends more on the ecu tune than anything else.
High rpm (in vtec) profiles are the more aggressively modified profiles, as in vtec high rpm is where power is made.
