After Market Pistons Stock Rods?
 

Just as the title says can aftermarket pistons be used on stock rods. I have a B16a shortblock and would like to use my JE 9:1 pistons in a turbo app. Of course all built by the machine shop. I only want to make 300-350 and know the stock bottome end is enough...for a little assurance i was thinking of slapping in my forged pistons with new bearing and bigger rod bolts...Usually when stock bottom ends fail it's a stock piston melting or the crank bearings have spun...HELP PLEASE!

IMO, shell out the extra few bucks for some quality Rods...
then you don't need to worry about it. I wouldn't trust many stock rods (especially worn, used rods) to perform with any sort of reliability at the 300 - 350 HP range. IMO
you're balls-deep in doin' a rebuild anyways, why even chance it?

Stock rods will hold fine if your only in the 300-350 range. But if you have the money then yes, get rods but if your on a budget and you have pistons, then of course they will work on stock rods. But if your only looking to make minimal power then stock rods will be more than sufficient for 300. No reason to throw $350 if you dont have to.

yei but golden eagle sells good rods 4 cheap i mean its worth it u dnt want 2 pull the block apart again because a rod failed better off doin it once den do it over and over again..but if u do stock rods u might have 2 have them shaved a bit so its just alot easier buying sum new 1

^^agree i made 765 on eagle rods I would just save up and buy rods cuz your probably gonna want more power in the long run and you want have to tear it all back apart.

You can get that to work, but I wouldn't recommend it. I always preferred to have stronger rods, compared to the pistions. If you melt a piston, you may need to bore out your cyl. but a snapped rod most likely means you have a hole is the side of your block. =)

One other thing if I have 81 or 81.25mm bore turbo pistons for a B16 can I use those in an LS motor.

any B series motor (besides B20's) are stock 81mm bore that means GSR, LS, B16 ect

and i will agree with most of the people on here spend the extra 320 bucks on eagle rods why mess around with stock rods if your already going with a forged piston? and also most people once they have 250whp they want 350whp. Then after they have 350 they want 450 and so forth build the motor way past what you want it to make then you will never have issues with it braking later, because there are a ton of completely stock B series making 300whp+++ but if you want it to last and be totally reliable just build it right the first time
