Default suggestions on my engine build ?

i not sure what i want to do here. i have a b18a1 never touched. i was thinking of doing an OEM build with arp rod studs and some head work pushing 10lbs, tuned of course. but im not sure if thats the way to go or not. im sorta on a buget and im trying to avoid burning 400 - 500$ on pistons if i dont have to but... any build ideas please let me know

do a compression and leakdown test before you turn a single wrench on that engine....there is no reason to tear it apart before you know what condition its in

ARP's are a good idea

I agree. If you rebuild you might as well spend the ~800 for the forged rods and pistons. I had Wiseco pistons and eagle rods in my ls/vtec and I had no issues at all.

just 2 add, thou it might hurt the pockets now, its better to do your bottom end in the startin stages, so later it doesnt rise as a problem when desire'n more power

i'm making about the same on a GSR stock bottom end....personally if you're going to tear it apart, build it correctly while its apart

with new forged internals, $2500-$3500 for a fully assembled shortblock from some reputable shops here on h-t. cheaper if you provide some of the parts or just stick with oem internals.

it depends on how strong you want it....

stock bore stock internals is good for 300whp easy on that block...

if you want some piece of mind, throw some forged internals and head studs in it... with a fresh bore if needed... make 400+

if you want REAL satisfaction, get the block sleeved..

Earl does a complete shortblock (pistons, rods, sleeves, bearings) for $3100 plus shipping. http://www.laskeyracing.com/shop/bseries.htm

~500 pistons
~350-400 rods
~150 bearings
~50 to hone the block
~35 to press rods on pistons if you need that
~50 misc stuff
~100 arp/aebs head studs
~40 to get the crank polished and what not.

Thats about it if you can put it together your self.
