action clutch slipping after 1000miles on gsr
I decide to post this here since I figured more people here are more familar with the action clutch. Anyways I have the 1ks action clutch the one with the kevlar disc. I just had my gsr motor freshly rebuilt and the clutch and flywheel put in my 92hatch about 1 month ago, and broke everything in until about 1000 miles when I finnally got on it, when shifting at high rpms around 7-8k clutch doesen't grab at all. I did remember hearing that the clutch will be toast if any oil gets on it. I did have a oil leak right where the distributor is, the leak was right on top of the tranny possible oil got into the clutch?
I'm just pissed now I spent way major amount of time putting the motor together and try to get everything done right and I think I will be needing a clutch disk soon and pulling the dam tranny out. Hopefully it will grab soon if anything did get on the clutch is gone. I'm pretty sure oil got on the disc; I think I have just learned my lesson with using a damn kevlar disc.but hey smooth *** engagement.. Anyways what do you guys think? thanks

sorry forgot to mention its a all motor basically stock with jdm itr pistons, so the most is about 200hp at flywheel or less; think the clutch could handle around 243lbs of torque so this shouldn't be the issue...

You posted in forced induction is why I asked. In any case, I am putting way more power and abuse down on my 1ks and it hasn't ever slipped. I'd say you have another problem.

did you resurfaced your old flywheel ? It could be the problem.... but since you dont haves tons of torque I dont think that a small detail like that should matter.

MY homeboy had the same problem with his Excedy. After looking at the motor a little closer we saw that he had a minor oil leak and it got to the disc, causing it to slip. We pulled the tranny off, douched the disc down with some brake cleaner and put it back together. It's perfect now

When I rebuilt the motor I had all of the seals replaced, i'm just wondering if oil could get in the tranny/clutch from the top where the distributor is.. If the clutch doesen't grab now it shouldn't grab any better later?

Re: (clean rice)
I'm bringing back my old post. Anyways since im off school now I have to fix the clutch slipping problem. I suspect when I had the motor rebuild, the main seal wasn't installed correctly causing an oil leak in there. My clutch grabs until I rev hard causing oil to leak into the clutch area, where it would slip pretty bad. It seems to hold up pretty good when I'm not driving hard (maybe no oil gets on it during lower rpms?) My questions is after I fix the oil leak, will I be able to reuse the kevlar disc, if i get it cleaned or sandblasted? I only put about 3k miles on it so far. If not I will get the disc replaced, maybe a spurng 6-puck or the street disc, dont want to go with the kevlar again, because I'm afraid of having more slipping problems or any other problems. Also where would I find a replacement disc? thanks

when i had my action 2ks clutch installed, i was told by the dealer to spray it with brake/carb cleaner first. so you might want to try that if you didn't do it before. it could help you this time around. it'll probably help to get some oil off too.
