Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem

Setup is a Drag3 kit/Tial/testpipe/60mm exhaust/Hondata S200B/450's on stock everything else GSR.

Basically, when I hit WOT in 2nd gear, Ill reach full boost at the normal time, but it feels slower...then immediately as the needle hits 7k it pushes me back in my seat. I do not think its doing this in any other gears, although a quick run in 3rd felt like it wasnt steady pull, kind of sporradic.

Whats strange is it ALWAYS kicks at 7k in 2nd. Any ideas?

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (newgsrdriver)

could you please give a better description, what does it do @ 7k rpm's?

does it bog does it pull what ...

just give some more info bro so somebody could maybe help you out,

Im not saying that this is your problem but when I had my old hatch the throwout bearing was going and when I was boosting like @ 7500 rpm's my car felt like it was slipping or breaking loose but it was my throwout bearing and I had a bad 3rd gear syncro, but I dont think that had anything to do with the throwout bearing slipping.

that is a problem I had im not saying its yours but I hope that might lead you in the right direction!!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images.../h-emblem4.gif

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (BoostedsiR)

It pulls hard at 7K. But boost is steady througout the powerband as normal. Basically, it pulls harder at 7k, but boost is constant.

It isnt necessarily bogging, it just doesnt feel as fast up to 7K. Once it hits 7k, it pulls, as if the turbo just hit full boost, but it didnt, as its been at full boost.

So its kind of the opposite of a clutch slipping feeling, as it actually pulls HARDER in 2nd gear ay 7K RPM than earlier. Noticeably as well...just like you just reached full boost.

Anyone have any other ideas?

whens your full boost hit? you might have your peak torque at 7K.

It didnt drive like this before though...the graph is pretty flat, this is seriously like a huge difference in power.

boost spike?

Thats what I thought as well, but boost is constant, it isnt spiking http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

Reset the ECU for kicks...still happenin.

When 7k comes around, sure enough zoooooooooom like it used to.

Today actually, I was @ about 5500RPM, and I floored it in 2nd, the car totally bucked (like I hit a brick wall) and the CEL popped on for a split second...immediately let off the gas and shifted, CEL light dissapeared...and this hasnt happened again. Still sluggish up to 7k though.

Any ideas? Something related to the ECU/Hondata?

BTW...3rd gear isnt right either. It isnt a pronounced slow to fast like it is in 2nd...it just isnt a smooth pull like it should. At WOT in 3rd you can feel the car bog for a split second and pull again, then bog for a split second and pull again, etc. As if on a dyno the graph had 100RPM dips scattered throughout the powerband.

May not neccesarily be a boost problem... When's the last time you changed your plugs, wires, cap and rotor...? It's a fairly cheap maintenence procedure and even if it doesn't fix your problem, it's a good place to start... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Also, what time of year was the MAP that is currently in your Hondata tuned...? If it was really warm like 90 degrees or so when you originally tuned and it's about 40 to 50 degrees now, your car could be running really lean, but the MAP has enough fuel up top to make it feel normal...? http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif It's a long shot, but at this point nething's a possibility...

do you have a wideband handy? i could also be that your injectors are spraying too much fuel and running really rich, but when you get to the upper rpms it's leaning back to a normal afr underboost and going.

definately do what 4u2nv suggested with the plugs/wires/cap/rotor, but then get a wideband on it to see what's going on in terms of fuel.

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (4U2NV)

Plugs are new...less than 1k on them. Wires have been a while...maybe 40k. Same with cap/rotor. I will check them and see if it makes a difference.

Hondata was tuned in 60ish degree weather, it wasnt too far off today, maybe in the 40s, so that shouldnt make that much of a difference.

I dont have a wideband handy unfortunately...it was running fine before this, what would make it all of a sudden decide to run rich/lean? Could the CEL that popped today for a split second have anything to do with anything? My boost cut is set to 10PSI, so if I possibly spiked for a second, that could have just been the Hondata cutting out.

Thanks...keep the suggestions coming guys, they are more than welcome! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (newgsrdriver)

Definitely try cap/rotor/wires, it made a huge on difference when I changed mine out... Also, pull the CEL you threw and see what code it is... Even though it's no longer on, the ecu will store the code... But if you boost spiked, and it just flashed on it's prolly a MAP code because it saw more than 11.3psi... Doesn't hurt to be sure though... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (4U2NV)

I am OBD1, I was under the impression only OBD2 stored codes.

Same thing happened again this morning...at WOT, the CEL actually popped on around 7K and I hit a brick wall, shifted into neutral and the light immediately popped off. Only happened once.

I dont get it? Does any of this sound like sympoms of a bad map sensor or ignition problem to anyone? What makes it catch at high RPMs?

Re: Acceleration/Bogging/clutch? problem (newgsrdriver)

Im going to go get the ignition stuff when I get a chance and see if that makes a difference.

Im just trying to understand here, b/c I dont get it...what would make the wires/cap/rotor perform fine under partial throttle, then struggle at WOT until 7K? What would make it all of a sudden kick in at 7K?
