Default ? about the GSR 5qt. Moroso turbo oil pan and oil level

hey everyone, i have a turboed jdm gsr motor with the moroso 5qt. oil pan thats already baffled and fitted with a oil return line bung for turbo and i had a question about the oil level, i was told not to put 5qts in it cause itll rise above the oil return return bung, ive been puttin 4.5 qt's but on my dipstick, itll only show barely to the first dot, usually under but its got really good oil pressure and i gotta get down to 2qts in the pan until the oil pressure drops and starts to sputter thru the oil feed line so i think 4.5 is fine but should i even go less to like 4 or should i go to 5 or just keep it where it is, everythings runnin fine now but i was told that sometimes when i gun it, there is a little bit of blue smoke, i just had my motor compression and leakdown tested and everything was really good and better than average, guys even said the motor was in better shape then most N/A GSR motors and also i know the turbo is good so u think maybe oil is too much and should i go with less, just wonderin? thanks

I never heard of that but it makes me wonder. I actually am doing the opposite. I have a turbo civic and I'm actually putting 6 quarts into my 5.5 quart pan. The mechanic that installed it checked it and thus far I've had no problem. do you have the same pan, 20910?

I run about 4 quarts in mine also, any more and the level is above the lowest point of the bung. Your symptom is probably unrelated though, because when you launch like that, the oil moves to the rear of the pan, so it would not be hurting your flow from the turbo drain.

With my EG w/stock mounts on level ground the bung stops dripping at the very tip of the dipstick (about 4.5 quarts).I run it at about 5 quarts. One of these days I'm going to cut about a quarter of an inch of the tube so the level is higher on the stick. That would make me feel safer...lol

Remember that when the engine is running there is a significant amount of oil filling the oil passages, in the pump, and sticking to everything. I would guess that when the engine is running there is at least a full quart of oil less in the pan than when the engine isnt running..
